Need help with using a 10 meter Ethernet cable with a router

I’ve connected my router to an expander with a long Ethernet cable. It connected ok when the cable wasn’t used but it just didn’t provide coverage all over the house.

I can connect to the EXT (expander) network, all lights are on, on the booster. I just don’t get three bars so I’m not on the network, I’m still on my data. Shown in the photo.

For the router network I see 3 bars momentarily when I connect but then it kicks me out and this process repeats again and again.

on this one? I believe it is alright. I’m not home. I think it might not have been a solid green but it wasn’t blinking or flashing either. Kind of hard to describe

It's not supposed to work like this, the extender will connect through WiFi to the wireless router, the ethernet port on the extender is for connecting one device that doesn't have WiFi capabilities.

Yeah, I think cordell is right. You don't need to run a cable from the router to the tp-link. It is picking up the WiFi signal from the router, and rebroadcasting/extending it. The port in the tp-link is for plugging in something that doesn't have WiFi.

Cordell isn't asking a question, he's telling you how the extender works.

You're supposed to put the extender at a point that has a good WiFi signal, so that it can pick it up from your router and then extend it into an area that doesn't have a good signal.

The manual doesn't say to connect the extender to your router via an ethernet cable. There are extenders that will work that way, but they usually have two Ethernet ports (one to take the incoming network, and one to connect devices).
