Question re. discussion of crimes

Has there been a rule change on the discussion of crimes? It used to be that nothing before the courts could be discussed, but the New Ross thread was just closed simply because someone has been arrested in relation to the murder.

Now, the thread was turning into the usual, predictable shít-show and I don't blame the mods for wanting to be rid of it. But I'm curious as to whether there has been an actual rule change, and if so, why?

    TIA.

    Bueller? Anyone???

I'm obviously not looking for that particular thread to be re-opened as someone has been charged in that case, but I am genuinely curious as to whether there has been an official rule change around discussion of crime.

    Thanks a mill.

No rule change I'm aware of.

Some posters started talking about the McGregor civil trial in an MMA McGregor thread on the first week of the trial - I saw mods contributing so I presumed it being a civil trial it didn’t count - eventually there was a mod intervention to stop the discussion on the trial - likely an oversight for that example .

“, but the New Ross thread was just closed simply because someone has been arrested in relation to the murder.”

Such threads usually close on “charge” not “arrest” in my experience - the Bailey threads being prime exhibit “a”.
Maybe because the thread was becoming difficult they just closed it for that reason alone ?

I suspect that's exactly why it was closed, but it would have been better to be honest about it, imo. Perhaps @Necro might weigh in here?

    Good evening Dial Hard,

Necro can also advise, but the thread becoming difficult wasn't the main reason for closing it.

I actually raised the question to other mods and admins after the arrest was made on whether the thread should remain open, I wasn't clear/sure what is the cut off point.
