I came across a debate on a community page on FB over this roundabout. It started because someone was complaining about people entering the roundabout in the right hand lane to take the Ashbourne exit.

Others argued that the sign clearly shows the exit is beyond 12 o Clock, while others argued the reality is that the exit is bang on 12 o clock.

Years ago I got muddled on a roundabout during my driving test, I passed but asked the tester after what the correct lane was to take the second exit, he said the sign shows it as 1 o clock and you have to follow the sign, therefore the right hand lane. So I've always followed that rule.

Anyways, the local driving instructor got involved in the community group debate and is adamant that the sign should be disregarded and that the 12 o clock rule takes precedence.

    Any thoughts?

its fine if you are the local driving instructor and know the layout intimately. But if you are approaching the roundabout without that knowledge then you have no information on the layout other than the sign.

That's what you would think, sometimes where there are no road markings all you have to go on is the sign. But instead there were people in the thread talking about "not giving an inch" to people in the right hand lane.

There's a coincidence. We approached that same roundabout only last night, coming from the M2 and I was trying to figure out as I approached it whether it was straight through for me also, as I was heading for the swords exit.

Sign suggests it's not a roundabout, but is cul de sac beyond the Swords exit.

    If not best go right

You mean the gap in the circle? That's standard on signs.
