I am old enough to remember the 1968 referendum to change from proportional representation to 'first past the post'(one man, one vote) that was defeated by about 60/40. If I can recall, the smaller labour party was totally against it as 'first past the post' favours the larger parties. (The one man, one vote is also easier to count)

500 euro. If you dont have enough support to raise 500euro to pay a deposit you dont have enough support to be a genuine candidate

They said she was kicked and punched on the ground, her injuries were not of that nature and they look like two scrotes

IIRC, they didn't even claim that they saw the kicking - she claimed she saw movements that looked like someone kicking a person on the ground but they didn't see the "contact" happen.

I can recollect a famous bishop in the midlands who ran for TD election several time and always lost his deposit. I think he claimed he did not mind as it was great publicity and good value for money. Cheaper than advertising.

It most certainly is not and like the vast majority of European voters, the Irish have seen fit to reject it twice. And there is more than sufficient stats available from UK elections to confirm it, if you'd take the time to study them.

The framers of the Irish constitution did an excellent job in defining our democracy. We have sufficient direct democracy to keep the three branches of government in check, while not over burdening us with frivolous referenda like Switzerland and a solid PR system that produces a good representative parliament. The only thing missing some might argue is the right of a people's initiative. Which was in the Free State constitution, but dropped in the new one. I have never found any documentation as to why.
