Hard to see The Pitt as an ER reboot. It's a fine series, but I wouldn't see it as having the same success as ER. Very quiet, stripped down series. Strong acting, plot lines a bit melodramatic. A bit addictive.

^ It's feels far from an ER reboot to be honest - especially in it's structure.

I'd say it more likely stems from the number of individuals who worked on both shows that's troubling the estate.

From actors (Noah Wyle), writers (R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells) and production companies (John Wells Productions and Warner Bros).

    Don't think they've a case however.

Man that was intense again and pretty heavy going at the end with Robby. Incredible show. Is that kid even the shooter!?

Love that closing tune but not really into the vocal version.

^ Too obvious that lad is the shooter I reckon.

Give Noah Wyle his Emmy… skip the formalities.

I assume the shooter is already being treated in the hospital, or maybe that's a bit too Hollywood. Great show

I presume it's the lad who was making threats?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,506 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

The big lad who punched the blonde lady? Or the teenager with the list of girls he wanted to kill? The latter is too obvious I think. The former would be ridiculous for a variety of reasons.

Been binge watching this over the past few days or so, not really in to medical dramas although I watched the Good Doctor, but loving this show, episode 12 and 13 were intense - really great drama and the SFX were really well done, really need to see the last two episodes like now!

Another great episode. The end angered the shlt out of me. Such well written, cast and acted characters. Gutted the next one is the last of the season.

The end credits tune is also up on YT.

Fun fact - McKay, played by Fiona Dourif, had her actual father (Brad Dourif) appear as her character's father.

Brad Dourif would be known to most from "Lord of The Rings"..

.. and of course, for voicing this lad:

^^^No way! I wouldn't have recognised him at all behind that beard. I'd know him mainly from One flew over the Cuckoos nest and a few minor roles. I didn't even know he voiced Chucky.:p

Binge watching this as we speak. Incredible series.

I had to check on Season 2, and I see it's already in production. Same format - 15 hours over 15 episodes. Apparently it is set on 4th July weekend, 10 months after season 1.

Separately, it's hard to fully absorb any scene with Langdon since my partner pointed out how much he looks like the main character of Team America.

Well it seems it WAS intended to be an ER reboot. Assuming she can present evidence of the negotiations taking place then falling apart. I am inclinded to belive her. Dr Robbie is a little different then Carter. But I can easily see Dr Adamson being a stand in for stand in for Benton.

    "

The complaint alleges that the creators of “The Pitt” revealed to Crichton’s widow in 2022 that they had been developing an “ER” reboot, two years after they began working on the project.

After negotiations stalled with the studio, Crichton’s estate refused to give consent for the planned reboot, according to the lawsuit.

“Without (the Plaintiff’s) consent, Defendants’ work on an ER reboot should have ended,” the lawsuit alleges. “But Defendants’ efforts did not end.”

I don't think there are enough substanial differences between the two shows.

does that mean Wyles and Wells can never do a medical show ever again?

Both sides have agreed that the timeline is something like this.

John Wells, HBO and Noah Wyle start talking about an ER sequel based on Carter.

The HBO creatives and Wyle start working on the show, charecters, episodes outline, all that stuff. While legal engage with Crichtons estate over how much credit and money they get.

This legal and the estate go back and forth. All while the creatives work on the show.

Talks fall apart then within 24 hours Wells, Wyle and HBO announce a new medical show The Pitt.

The timeline suggests that it is a derivitive work.

If they hadn't contacted the Crichton estate and spent months working on pre production. Only to scrap everything and announce a new medical show which sounds similar to the planned ER follow up. I would agree with you. In that it is not a derivitive work.

But in this instance all evidence suggests otherwise.

Really enjoyed it. I'm not usually into medical dramas, apart from House, but this was excellent. The real time aspect was very well done. Herself, who loves med dramas, loved this, and it's one of the few things we've both watched in a long time. Looking forward to season two.

Having enjoyed The Pitt, we came across another Medical drama "Pulse".

We weren't overly impressed with first episode but stuck with it, definitely improved and not a bad watch but it's not The Pitt.

Until I was poking around on IMDB I didn't realise that Taylor Dearden, the one who played the part of Dr Melissa King, is Bryan Cranston's daughter. For whatever reason she's using her mother's name.
