    Hi

I need a 100-110" pull down 16:9 screen for films that i can attached to wall. Can't be more than 254cm but screen needs to be at least 199cm. Ideally it would be 145cm height but maybe shorter not a big deal.

Then need a short throw projector to project an image on screen of 100-110" and projector will be close to screen but not right up again it - at least 160cm from screen but max 270cm.

    Any suggestions?

    Hey Theboinkmaster.

Sapphire have the SW240WSF-ASR2 which is 106" It Viewing Area is (mm):2340 x 1320. Its shorter than your measurement but the next size up is 122" which is over 150cm and also much more than the 254cm coming in at over 270.

For the projector I would check out the Benq TK700SKI which has been very popular. Coming in at €1348. This is a 4K laser projector and performs excellently! It hit 100" from just 190cm then a little further back to get the 106" but still within the 270cm that you have.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    ok amazing thank you!

Quick question on the screen. My understanding is there are 3 types of projectors:

    • normal long throw
    • Short throw - i think like the one you suggested
    • Ultra short throw

and each one of these requires a different type of screen? the ultra short throw and short throw need a newer different type of screen or am i wrong?

    Thanks for advice so far!

    Hi Theboinkmaster.

For Ultra short throw it is recommended you go for an ALR screen but these can be expensive.

For Short throw and Ultra short throw it is also recommended to go tap tension so the screen can be pulled tight to avoid any imperfections.

For Short Throw you can get away with a normal projector screen.

And of course for long throw a normal projector screen will do the job.
You can of course use any of the 3 screen types of a long throw if you wished.

ok perfect thanks just 2 quick Qs:

    • the screen you suggested - can this be wall mounted easily enough?
    • The projector - reviews I've seen keep referring it to being a gaming projector, when really i want it for films, so just double checking is that the best - even if i moved the throw distance back another 1-2m?

    Thanks for advice so far!

    Hi The Boink,

thanks for the messages - With most PJ's the 'throw distance' is pretty critical and especially with short-throw PJ's, so in the first instance I would determine pretty much exactly where you are going to place your PJ and that will assist in determining what screens will be suitable.

If you are going Ultra Short Throw - You really have to have a fixed or good tab tensioned screen , if you are using a short throw -I'd still ideally recommend a tab tensioned or fixed screen (although as Kenny says, you may get away with a good standard screen)

On the 'Gaming' issue, the major factor in this regard is the low lag times - the 710Sti is also super bright - which is a boon for Gaming - but also enhances your movie experience.

Hope that is helpful but as ever keep us posted with your throw distances and any other queries,

hey just looking at screen on website to order and says special delivery, what’s the lead tome ?

  • Company Representative Posts: 17,823 ✭✭✭✭Richersounds.ie: Kenny

    Hi TheBoinkMaster.

Which screen is it that you are looking to order?

Most special order projector screens have a lead time of 7-10 Days (Provided the screen is in stock with the supplier).

Hi it's the one linked above - the

    Sapphire SWS240WSF-ASR2

assume that's still my best option? If so just want to check stock/lead time.

    Hey TheBoinkMaster.

It would still be your best option.

I've emailed our supplier to confirm if they have the screen in stock and I'll keep you posted.

I'm going to order the projector later. I just want to build the system in increments - so once I have screen up I'll order projector and once happy with that I'll probably order a sonos soundbar.

Hi I'm just looking at projector options and i like the look of the BenQ 700STI you referenced for €1,388 on website.

But looking at reviews I see the BenQ 710STI for €1,798 so assume that is superior?

Once I get the screen delivered and hung I'll test it out then order projector but seems like this is the best option for my requirements and throw distance.

    Hi TheBoinkMaster.

The TK710STI is the one to go for.

It has higher lumens and much better contrast. Its also got a quieter fan and uses less energy.
Its input lag is just 4ms making it one of the fastest responding projectors in its class.

    *4ms input lag at 1080p@240Hz, 8ms at 1080p@120Hz and 2K@120Hz, 16ms at 4K@60Hz

Give me a shout when your ready and we'll see if there are any deals to be had on the projector.
