Just wondering, is there any way to track down a car, by reg, to see if it's still around/on the road ?

Just got a hankering to track down one I used to own - one of those 'should never had sold it' moment, but wondering how I'd find/get in contact with the owner ?

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

You can't get the registered owner legally, you'd need to know someone with access to the national vehicle database (e.g. a Garda or possibly a County Council motortax employee) and they'd be, or should be, in trouble for doing this.

Have you seen my (legal) car stalking thread.

Traditionally, solicitors were able to request ownership details in writing from their local motor tax office. Might be worth a shot, but would cost you.

Put the reg into the NCT website and it will show the most local NCT centre to the registered address. After that there is no way for you to get the owners details.

Cant do it, for example let's say you saw a person you fancied getting into her car, you'd be able to find out her name and address and stalk her etc

Another example, a bit of road rage, not happy with someone cutting you off in traffic etc you'd find their house very easy

I know you could follow someone home etc anyway but these are reasons there's no access to that database to the general public

Id imagine it's a GDPR black hole.

If there is an owner's club or some group online associated with the make or model of your old car you could get in touch with them.
