Aer Lingus timeframe to recieve my expenses back on flight diverted to uk and stayed overnight

    I was on a flight with aer lingus from tenerife to dublin on 20th oct 2024, we were diverted to Birmingham due to weather in dublin, were told by pilot that aer lingus would arrange transfer to hotels etc, an hour later told to make our own arrangements, so i arranged taxi, overnight hotel, food and taxi back to birmingham next day.

    I went on aer lingus site chanced claiming for flight cancellation recieved reply next day , flight cancelled due to weather no compensation.

    So went on site again and submitted expenses incurred along with pdf proofs etc recieved a case reference number this was on 5th nov 2024, wish to find out when i can expect my expenses back and if their is any number to call to address.

    I’d be surprised if you get anything. As it’s weather related.

    Have you tried claiming from Your travel insurance

    Aer Lingus are obliged to refund reasonable expenses - the EU261 compensation will be (and, in my case,has been) refused because it was weather related.

    OP, I was part of a group of 23 stuck in Berlin due to the storm, receipts were submitted before the end of October and we've heard nothing yet.

    A few in the group want to claim on their travel insurance and need written confirmation from Aer Lingus that our original flight was cancelled - people are phoning or emailing almost on a daily basis but can't even get that from the company.

    A work colleague of my OH was stranded in Rome last May on her way home from Greece (flights were delayed, pilot reached his max hours so landed in Rome) - they're still waiting for a refund....

    Think we were on that flight that was diverted to Rome from Greece over max hrs with pilot. Was annoying as hell. Still waiting as well. Aer lingus came back with amount but they just mention other half on the email and refund to her not the 5 of us in the family so she keeps emailing and ringing them to explain that the claim is for 5 people not just her. Sure she rang a few weeks back and got through and person on other end in aer lingus kept telling her to reply to a do not reply aer lingus email as there not looked at. Eventually after about 20 mins they told her not to do that even tho other half kept explaining this to them. She keeps getting a new case number saying to upload bank details which she has done but she keeps explaining to them that there only refunding amount for her not the 5 of us in the family so it's ongoing and ongoing and ongoing.....

    All i want is my costs involved, recieved an email below an hour after we landed ( while on landed plane).

     Dear Customer, unfortunately we are unable to depart Birmingham (BHX) due to the adverse weather in Dublin. Your flight EI763 is now cancelled. We will send an update on the status of your aircraft tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, the hotel company we are contracted with are unable to source hotel accommodation for you on this occasion, please arrange your own accommodation and we will reimburse any reasonable costs incurred by you. Please retain all relevant receipts and use this link to go to the post travel enquiry form to submit your claim for reimbursement. . Please follow this link www.aerlingus.com/support/legal/regulation/ to view your rights and our obligations under Regulation (EC) 261/2004. We?re very sorry for the inconvenience caused, The Customer Care team.

    Having read replies above looks like an uphill battle, and to make matters worst i booked a hotel via booking.com ( non refundable) for same days of month but unfortunately its next May!

    Is there a method or contact to progress my expenses claim i was given a case reference number.

    I appreciate that safety was/is most important of course

    we were told when landed in Birmingham by the captain that Aer lingus would arrange travel and overnight accomodation, 30 mins later he said "im afraid your on your own and have to arrange yourselves, i went on booking.com website found hotel near airport and booked for 20th to 21st not noting that i hadnt booked the 20th to 21st oct, i was probably looking at hotels abroad for following may while away so didnt check, easily done when everybody panicking on plane.

    Even the captain said it was a disgrace the way Aer Lingus were treating us, but shur

    Did you submit receipts for the mistaken May booking? There's no way the airline are going to refund you for that, and if you submitted the receipts for it, you've probably ensured an even longer delay - it'll probably have to go for further review, then rejection, then you'll likely need to resubmit

    i did 28064212 submitted all receipts including the May booking, & your point is taken, i come back to my original query is there a contact, number/email in order to find out what is happening, considering when you book a flight the money leaves your ac straight as did my expenses!
