I have the 8a, it's a hot little bugger when your video calling or gaming. It's not my primary phone but it's alright Id say as a primary phone. Just don't go mad with intensive tasks. Also turning off 5G and using 4G only seems to help with the heat. The camera takes lovely photos I'll give it that. Charging is as slow as it can be and that's with the proper charger. I can see why three have this on as a deal as I wouldn't say it sells well for the regular €400 + price. No way I'd pay that for it ! €250 porting deal I'd saying it's worth it for that.

2nd post in the thread was somebody who used a lyca mobile number. Didn't specify if it was e-sim or physical though.

I took a chance getting an Lyca eSim. When I got the code for porting via sms it said I need to contact 3.

I'll probably be in the market for an Android phone of this size (I find 6.5"+ screens too big to be comfortably pocketable) around this price point next few weeks. Anyone with a crystal ball reckon there might be nicer deals going around Black Friday? I've been using an S22 (which I won't have access to anymore) but the battery life really isn't great on it and I'm not blown away by performance either at times.

Speaking of battery life, the pixel phones have a bedtime mode where it charges upto around 80% at night time and proceeds treacle charge it to 100 just before you get up in the morning.

This should preserve the life of the battery.

It doesn't charge as fast as the Chinese phones like Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus etc... but the speed they charge at can't be good for the life of the battery I reckon.

Is this the best price seen on 8A?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,722 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

yes, I bought it a few months back from EE in the UK (earlier Bargain Alert) and it worked out at about 300 once VAT was paid.

Is this online only, or can I get the offer in a 3 store?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭Entonces

You can get it online or in store(ring to check stock levels)

If you are using a lyca you must do in store for some reason. You need to have the number active with you to receive a text with a code.

In store you will need to purchase a sim for e20 unless you have an active three sim that they can move the number on to.

Yes Gomo WiFi calling has been officially supported on pixels for about 6 months or so and unofficially for long before that

    Thanks OP.

I signed up using a Vodafone eSim and once again it shows how bad the VF site is - slow, pushing error messages for no reason and generally terrible.

Have one being delivered tomorrow or Thursday if they want it (€250 collected South Meath or if posted unfortunately will have to charge postage costs €13 registered) via Revolut, decided to get the 8 Pro on Google @ €549 for the bigger screen. PM if anyone wants it, will remove/edit post when gone.

I can't port my virgin number. Sucks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭Careful_now!

Cex will pay 282 for it.

For those who received theirs and opened up to use with a non-Three sim; checking for 100% certainty they are working on other networks, right? Have used Pixels 7a and before, albeit bought from VF and were sim free so just want to make sure. I'm very confident they are but just for peace of mind before I arrange to give someone!

EU law required phones be unlocked at point of sale, no exceptions, you'll be fine :)

Not immediately though? Only if you pay the minimum fee for the phone based on contract or PAYG rates. But some phone brands (e.g. Pixels) are always unlocked it would seem…

Ported today from old activated Lyca sim. Bought in store. Had to buy Three sim €20.
Inserted existing Gomo sim and all working fine including Gomo WiFi calling….

I think this was asked before, but can't see the answer. If I buy this, on prepay, can i move with my number to another prepay deal after a month or two, or are you tied in for a certain amount of time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭mykrodot

like the above poster please explain this to me (like I'm a 5 year old).

I am already with Three on a SIM only PAYG deal. I am looking for a Pixel 8Pro and have been looking online for a while. Refurbed and Currys have the best prices. What is this deal above with Three and am I eligible seeing that I am already with Three?

    Thanks

Would this phone be much of an upgrade on the pixel 6?

If you port in from a different network you can port away again as soon as you have the phone in your hands, it's pre pay so there are no limits. You will lose any credit that you have on the sims though.

This is a porting deal. If you are already on Three then you can't take it up unless you port away and port back and that would likely be far far far too much hassle. Just pick up a prepay sim in a store and use that to port.

If you try to take up this offer in a bricks and mortar store they will make you buy a €20 top up.

If you take it up online you sign up to a prepay plan but don't have to take a top up.

If you are looking for a Pixel 8 pro this is not the phone for you. Google have some discounts on the Pixel 8 pros on the official site at the moment and other providers may have them too.

If you don't know the differences between a Pixel 8A, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro you need to go and read up on them or you may end up purchasing something expecting one thing and getting another.
