gofree.indigo.ie email account authentication failure

    Hello Boards

I have an old gofree.indigo.ie that I have not used in quite some time, however, recently I sent an email to it and it did not bounce. Later I found the password to the account while rummaging through some old files. I tried to log into it from mozilla thunderbird but it would not authenticate; using pop.indigo.ie:110. I then emailed eir webmail support who own the indigo.ie server but I only got an automated response.

I believe that the account is still there and has become locked in some way due to inactivity or else my password is incorrect and I would need a password reset, however, I don’t recall changing it. Is there any way I can get in contact with an administrator of the indigo.ie server, preferably by text or email, I'm no longer a customer of eir. I'd be grateful of any advice or help, thanks.

My very first email address was a gofree.indigo.ie account. There was a similar inquiry here some years back.

    Here's the link

I still use mine - I would kinda prefer you don't draw eir's attention to it 😁 lest they shut it down, like the eircom webmail.

Thanks Deregos for your comment, I initially read that post from that link you gave, but it did not solve my problem, as I did email eir webmail support but got no response, also mail2web.com is no longer available.

I understand your concern Nate, but if I don't contact someone I will not be able to access my account.

I've double checked the password and email settings I found for the account and I'm certain that they are correct. I believe that there was no way of changing the password at the time I had the account. As the email I sent to that account did not bounce I assume that it must still be there. Can anyone help me access my gofree email, why will my user/pass not authenticate. Thanks, I appreciate the responses you gave.

I still collect from an old indigo.ie account using pop.indigo.ie.

Show us how you configured the server for it? Don't forget to hide anything personal in the screenshot.

Thanks for your reply. I was using Mozilla Thunderbird, Here is a screenshot of the settings I used for pop.indigo.ie:110.

And this is the error message I get:

    Authorization Error.png

I've hidden any personal information. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

That's the same as I have set to, and it works. So it sounds like you don't have the password correct. Alternately the username is wrong. It does look fairly long there, you're not including the @indigo.ie part are you?

I included the @gofree.indigo.ie part in the username, but I may have tried it without as well I can't remember. But the username is definitely correct, and I'm definitely sure the password I used had been used previously for that account. Unfortunately, if my password is incorrect is there any way of resetting it?

You just need the part before the @

Getting the password reset will be difficult. Eir long ago retired the frontend, and even years ago their support had no idea how to do so.

Ok, I tried with just the part before the @ but got the same result. I still think that the password is correct, because I recorded it with the dialup networking details I had at that time. They were the same auto-generated password that was given when I setup the email and dun internet provider (gofree.indigo.ie). I don’t remember changing the auto-generated password for either the dun or the email.

I’ve already tried quite a few times to login to that account. Is there a risk that the pop server could decide to lock the account due to failed login attempts or is that time bound? Or could it lock due to inactivity? Can pop3 accounts become locked?

In any case the only way now to get access to the account is to contact an experienced administrator that knows how to remedy the problem and I understand your comments on that. I appreciate the help you have given thanks very much. I understand the difficulties, are there any steps I can take that you can suggest? Thanks again.
