Complete novice at this so looking for some advice please as I got some advice from my brother in law (who is not always right) and he told me this aerial should work so I purchased it 😀 . It is from Screwfix:

Labgear LOG Megaboost TV Aerial - Screwfix

and I am using it with the following television TOSHIBA 32 INCH SMART VIDAA HD 2 READY TV

I have checked all the connections but still can't pick up any channels. Will I need a soarview box? or should it work the TV is Freeview compactable but don't say anything about Soarview.

Aerial is fine - correct frequencies for Saorview.

The TV - you need to specify the model number - it will be on the back of the TV on usually a silver sticker.

According to Harvey Norman, it has a DVB-T2 tuner so no box needed. Where (roughly) are you based and do you have the aerial installed outdoors?

In Portlaw, Waterford I have it in the loft at the moment I will keep trying so this evening perhaps could be aerial direction might need changing. I just wanted to make sure before I spend hours on something that will never work.

Put your address in here to find direction. Use Google earth to find what direction your house is oriented. Bring phone into attic and set direction

We use Suir Valley from Piltown, ch 33 and 36, there are 3 options, photos attached. Which direction do you have the aerial pointed, what direction are your neighbours pointed.

If you've got an android phone, the DTV Aerials app is really good - it's free but with adverts, or a couple of euros for the paid for version - I've used it a few times for different installations now so gave some money for the paid up version (note I've no connection with the company that make it - it's just an app that I've found really useful over the last few years)

Thanks, I have downloaded that DTV Aerials app looks useful. I was trying again last night using the Suir Valley transmitter and vertical polarisation but no luck television don't seem to be picking up anything on the signal reading on the screen. I was using some old coaxial cable for some of the connection I will try just use the new cables/connections I have over the weekend see if that makes any difference.

Is their insulation in the loft, the likes of the foil backed insulation can interfere, try with the aerial outside.

Where are you testing the aerial?

Suir Valley is a relatively low power transmitter so if you're testing it in the attic/indoors the signal will be degraded. Test it outside pointing in the direction of the transmitter and high up if you can.

There is a good bit of insulation in the loft. I will give outside a try and a few other transmitters if that fails keep me busy for Saturday anyway.

Well done, you can do installations now, that's the beauty of Boards.
