Big TV Recommendation

Hi, we recently converted our attic and I'm looking for a new TV.

I picked up the great deal from you guys on the Samsung HW-Q990D recently with cashback, so TV sound doesn't matter, but want a tv worthy of it.

We have a 65" in the living room and I want to go bigger for the attic, I would say 77" minimum. Looking at around a €2k budget. It's a bright attic during the day, though won't be any direct sunlight. I guess matching the soundbar with Samsung could be a good idea, but I also like Ambilight, would like 4 sided Ambilight, but that doesn't seem too common. Also would like Android OS, but not a dealbreaker either.

Was looking at Samsung QE77S85D, Philips 77OLED809 or 85PML9009. Though there is very little in terms of reviews for the PML9009 online.

    In short:
    Bigger the better
    120hz or better
    2k-ish budget
    Ambilight would be a plus
    Android would be a plus

Open to any suggestions. Will your deals get any better over Black Friday or stay as they are? Any questions let me know, thanks!

Sorry, one other thing I forgot to mention. I know OLED will be a better screen, but for OLED I know I'll probably have to sacrifice size. So I guess, size/screen tech/cost are what I would need to weight up. I'm not sure on mini-LED or Samsungs Neo QLED etc stack up.

    Thanks for the post Julez.

OLED would definitely give the best picture and out of the three TVs you're looking at the 77OLED809 is definitely the best of them, especially as it has everything you're looking for - Ambilight, Google TV and 120Hz. The Mini LEDs would be better than the QLEDs as they have more dimming zones but because the OLEDs are self lit panels the brightness, colour and contrast are head and shoulders above them as they don't have a conventional backlight which can wash out the image.

We actually have an amazing deal on the 77OLED809 at the moment - it's down to £1999/2498 euro and at that price there isn't a TV that touches it:

Please don't hesitate to drop me a post if you'd like to go ahead with one.

    Kind regards

    Hi David,

Thanks for that, that does look a good deal, and I do think it makes sense to go for a 77" OLED rather than a bigger non OLED.

How would that screen compare to the LG and Samsung equivalents in that price range (B4 and S85D)? I see the S85D has a free soundbar mentioned on UK site, not sure if that is available to ROI too, I know I have my Soundbar already, but may be able to get some use out of another. I've actually been offered a 77" B4 at €2,000 (through a friend in the industry), so maybe I would be mad to turn that down.

Thanks for getting back to me!

The 8 series Philips would actually be on a par with the C series LGs. They have amazing picture quality with a great processor and the Ambilight gives it something the LGs and Samsungs don't have so I think it's a better buy than the Samsung S series and the LG B series.

Please don't hesitate to drop me a post if you have any further queries.

    Kind regards

    David

Great, thanks for the info, is 1999 GBP the absolute rock bottom you can go on it?

Thanks for getting back to me Julez.

That TV is already pretty heavily reduced so I couldn't go below the £1999 price but if there were any additional price drops between now and Black Friday we can refund the difference for you.

Please let me know if you'd like to go ahead with one!

    Kind regards

    David
