We are looking for ways to make our house more energy efficient.

Who is the best person to contact. We have been in contact with two different insulation providers and one convinced us to get cavity block walls pumped with beads and other advised against it. A little search on this forum and I came to know that cavity block pumping is not a good idea.

A little information about house. It's 2004 built, cavity block walls. BER was C1 when we moved in and started noticing some mold in master bedroom and attached WC. Previous owner told us that it was an ongoing issue. Now mold is gradually appearing in other bedroom and WC too despite regularly opening of window. There is condensation. BER upgraded to C3 after we recently got solar panels installed. Obviously house is still same cold house with condensation.

I have no idea who can advise us best about what to do or not to do.

Are SEAI grants worth going through that route or we are better without these grants?

If it's to save money and reduce mold they I would DIY it, an expert could cost thousands, and you will probably still have mold after

Get a €200 dehumidifier that has a humidity stat and plug it in on the landing and set it to 65

    Empty the tub every Saturday

A dehumidifier is like opening a window, really takes the mugginess out of the air, but opening a window has very little effect when it's still out, and will let in loads of cold air when it's windy, so you would need to be remember to close it

A dehumidifier will turn itself on and off when needed and won't let in cold air in fact it will also warm the air slightly while working
