I was placed 6th on a panel for the HEO in the data protection commission and I’m not sure if I should be happy or not. I really wanted the job so I’m wondering is there much chance of me getting a job offer at 6th place? They said that they had a high vacancy rate but that was in august so I’m not sure.

How long is the panel going to be for? It's usually in the booklet when you're applying. If it's a year or two you've a great chance.

yeah it says in the booklet it’s 18 months I think, but I’m wondering is there a good chance I could be called within the next 2 months because I may need to give my job notice

Nobody can predict when you will be called. It's a waiting game

When they offer you a role they will ask you how long notice you need and will give you that time usually so don;t worry about it now and just wait and see. 6th on the panel is pretty good and would usually mean you will get an offer relatively soon although it depends on what county it is for. However, as Billyhead says, it is a waiting game.
