Next up, returning to Forum Games after an extended absence (tbf the forum was in cryo-sleep so he ain't alone)… don't mention the Arsenal though…

Call It Love – Nilufer Yanya

I like the melody in this one, it’s definitely not something I’ve heard before which gave it a little boost. I had a bit of a Google about her influences and yep… don’t really know any of them either so this is quite new territory! I’m probably going to look up her album that seemed to receive rave reviews so thanks for the entry!

    How dare you! 😭

😂😂I never expect much in walrus so all good, it's a song that will grow on you with more listens 😆

Next up… a fresh new modship in hand so careful lest you get the ban hammer..

    Irish Aris

Rigor Mortis Radio – The Hives

I quite enjoyed this track, in fact I wanted a bit more of it and I think the fact it was quite short meant it dropped a few places when I came to doing the scoring. I thought the only time I had listened to the Hives before was when one of their tracks was the theme for a wrestling PPV yonks ago (Tick Tock Boom iirc) but then I recall they supported the Artic Monkeys last year… my sister was raving about them for a while after.

Another new entrant is up next and if you say their name in a certain way it's sounds like Snnnnoooooooop (yeah yeah it's lame whatever, I couldn't think of anything else)!

    Untitled Image

In 12th position with 10 points

    Suvigirl

    Pretty Pimpin – Kurt Vile

Heh, another new one for me. When I seen the artists name I thought this might be some sort of gangster rap song but well… nope! Anyways I quite enjoyed this and it wound up here in the rankings.

Following that another new entrant that appeared in a movie capturing all of our hearts… yeah I got nothing.

    Untitled Image

In 11th place with 11 points

    Bogey Lowenstein

    Padam, Padam – Kylie Minogue

Truthfully, bar her appearing at EP this year I hadn’t a notion Kylie was still making music. This is a good track though, the chorus is very very earwormy.

Next up, some call him the Walrus Godfather on Boards given he introduced the concept to us…

    Untitled Image

In 10th place with 12 points

    Rikand

Linger – The Cranberries (Iain Cook Remix)

I do like the original track but it’s sort of at the bottom of my list when it comes to Cranberries songs. I quite like the updated melody but it’s also not something I’d probably come back to anytime soon so for scoring purposes here feels about right.

Next up and another who hides in the shadows of Forum Games nowadays… a literal sniper for these types of games…

    Untitled Image

In 9th place with 13 points

    Tusk

    Daylight – David Kushner

Sucker for a song with some deep baritone vocals personally. There’s something about the deep growl of a decent male singer that I quite enjoy in my music. Don’t get me wrong there’s place for soprano-esque melodies too but yeah anyways… I enjoyed this track. Can see myself coming back to this one again.

Next up and I think it's her first game of Walrus here… they know her locally as Leggy. Yep, I gave up on the word association game about here😂

    Untitled Image

    Leg End Reject

    Unknown Legend – Neil Young

I’m almost certain someone submitted this to a previous Walrus of mine and I didn’t like it. And I can’t understand why I didn’t like it then because I love it now! The main issue I had was where to place it as this one continued to grow on me with each listen but so did the others above it… so we ended here.

    Electric Nitwit

    Running – Fat Dog

Certainly a unique entry I kept coming back to. It does take about a minute to get going but when it does you’re just bopping along like a mad thing with the track. Hope you enjoyed the gig EN!

    JP Liz V1

I Had Some Help – Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen

Just a cool chilled out track that I enjoyed each time I listened to it. First got introduced to Post Malone through Tay Tay and ‘Fortnight’ and I do like his voice. Yeah this is a very good entry.

    StrawbsM

    Gary – The Blossoms

I enjoyed the story to this track, I am a bit of a sucker for these even when it’s about an eight foot tall ape with a fiberglass heart! Condensing it into 2 mins and 30 secs for the Spotify version was just the cherry on top.

Good Luck, Babe – Chappell Roan

I was convinced I had heard this artist before but when I did a bit of a search it appears I have not. I really enjoyed this track and again I’m a bit of a sucker for the story especially in today’s society. Was unlucky to miss out on a podium place.

The next most played song on my playlist is Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan

And that brings us to our remaining 6….

    wrestlemaniac

    SineadSpears

    Mollyb60

    Sephiroth_dude

    jluv and…

    nachouser

Three of you will shortly be singing my praises for my excellent taste in music and three of you will be cursing my very existence shortly. It’s the part I both hate and love it’s our remaining 6 reveal! See you in about 5 minutes as I take a short break!

I did indeed! Absolutely epic gig, once of the best crowds I've known, brilliantly hectic but friendly moshpit for the whole gig, great fun

Glad you liked it, the album (Woof) is worth a listen if you liked that 🙂

Woo hoo, mid table mediocrity. Perfect for me 😁 a 'new' old competitor if truth be known.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 56,191 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Ok let's get our final 6 reveal underway… as I said before it's a part I love for suspense but also one I hate because I don't like giving bad news… we're all winners really. That being said…

    In 19th place with 3 points…

    Nachouser

    Little Notes – Tiny Ruins

This is an ok song with a decent melody but I have no idea what the singer is saying as they seem intent on mumbling it all into the microphone! I wanted to like it but unfortunately it ended up here.

    Wrestlemaniac

    Bones – Imagine Dragons

Heh, first time I was introduced to this track was through my eldest’s first group performance at his stage school. It absolutely got welded into my brain from all the practice and it still brings a little smile to this grizzled old bear when I hear it now. Very good choice and now it’s back in my liked songs after a spell on the sidelines!

Oh god the tension and it's only the first category!

    Starlings – Elbow

I tried to like this, I really did but the extremely long intro put me off every time. Is it representing a dawn chorus or are the brass band just playing for the craic? I couldn’t quite get the juxtaposition between the quiet moments and the booming sounds of the brass. It was good when it got going after about a minute and a half but it was hard to get to that point unfortunately…

    Jluv

    Lose Control – Teddy Swims

This guy’s voice is absolutely incredible. I’m now obsessed with this artist as I’m a sucker for really strong male vocals like this. The fact he got discovered doing musicals is really inspiring to the amateur actor in me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,784 ✭✭✭Mollyb60

Aww, I'm sad you didn't like it. The juxtaposition of the slow quiet start and the booming trumpets is what makes it a great song for me. And Garvey is a stunning lyricist, maybe one of the best IMO.

Also it was literally my number 1 listened to song when I pulled together my list. This week its Oh! by the Linda Lindas.

    Tomoshibi – Casiopea

Unfortunately someone has to finish last and I just didn’t gel with this track as much as the others. I can appreciate a nice bit of electro rock but I just found myself looking to change tracks during a few listens on this one… yeah just not for me sadly.

Which means that the winner of this category…

in FIRST place with 21 points…

    SineadSpears

The Emptiness Machine – Linkin Park

I loved Linkin Park back in the day. Like full out was obsessed with them. When Chester passed I was gutted and figured that was the end of them. Time moved on and I wasn’t following the goings on with Linkin Park anymore as I just assumed that was that (and I wasn’t and still am not really following the goings on of current music to be honest…) So colour me rather embarrassed when I got this entry and was like… how have I never heard this before? Then I realized it was a relatively new track which blew my mind again. Because Linkin Park without Chester shouldn’t work but somehow… it does. Yeah, mad kudos to our first category winner here. Loved it.
