Hello, first time poster, not a registered electrician but DIY'er.. I would like to move a light switch from one side of the door to the other side (as some shelving will be put in against that part of the wall, covering where the switch is now). It is pretty much wired as in the attachment.. The question I have is (1) can i just extend the Live wire and the Switched Live wire to the other side of the door or must I extend both whole cables to the other side ? (2) if i can just extend the live wires, should these extensed live cables be double insulated ? Many thanks

you can extend the existing cables using connector blocks and double insulated cables

Most switches will have 3 wires though (live, looped live and switched live)

Take a photo before you disconnect

If it’s a studded partition you may be able to move the wires without joining them

You can get twin brown 1.5 T&E, this would allow you to extend both wires with a single cable, it will also provide an earth to the new switch, if needed. You can leave the existing backing box in place and just fit a blanking plate, which will be hidden by the shelves anyway.
