I was considering buying one of these 2 ton bins, any general opinions on them. I get delivery of bulk bags of ration which usually hold 700-800 kgs every fortnight or so. Bottom of bag when lifted with front loader is 1900mm, so given the supplier 'spec' that's not high enough. If I lower it the 500mm (18inches) required to fill is it going to be a pain to use?. Anyone have similar issue. My meal supplier could maybe fill it using hoist that lifts bag off lorry, but driver mightn't want to climb ladder to open bag etc etc.

I do not know the price of that bin but expect it 2k+. You would be better off applying through TAMS and getting a 5-6T bin. Miller's deliver bulk in 3T deliveries and might do 2T deliveries. If you are going through 800kgs a fortnight you will do 3 tin in two months which will be grand in a bin. With the vat and grant back.it will be no more expensive than that bin.

No company can have employees climbing ladders to cut the bottom of bulk bags.

Agree with Bass here. Soulds like too much messing around. I bought a 5 ton secondhand bin 2 years ago in very good nick for handish money. Great job. No messing around with small bags or half ton bags anymore. Saver, cleaner and verim proof. Definitely the way to go with little efforts.

Could you get smaller bags 500kgs which loader might manage to lift higher other option is ,I presume you have 4wd loader ,then set up ramps to rise you the required height if it less then 18 inches short .

The other option is to fabricate an extension to fit loader for lifting bags higher,what type tractor & loader ,have you presently

Condons do a larger version too that you can get it blown in straight, I think it’s 4 or 5 ton. Most crowds now are three ton minimum delivery and you find when you do order3 ton it’s 3.5 ton that lands The hauliers are paid on a per ton basis and anything less isn’t worth their while.

If getting a 5T meal bin, is there regulations around the depth of concrete needed under it for the TAMS Grant does anyone know?

Make contact with Condons. They have the option of adding a blow pipe to the 2 ton bin if you need it

It's down as a 3m x3m slab at 250mm thick of 37n mix b concrete. This works out at 2.25 metres of concrete. Make sure to have the pink docket for the claim.

Maybe not if the 4 corners of the bags have to be caught. I’ve seen lads turn pallet forks upside down on the frame to get the extra height for filling corn sowers.

A seed bag is a good option. You could open and close it as you need.

Yeah the 1 & 2 Tonne have slots for pallet forks. After that its 5 tonne plus.

Ah jayus, like said above. Go Away and get a proper bin, grant or no grant. At least 5 or 6 ton. And don't be bolloxing around with that thing. The proper bin is the way to go

Yea as above post said its money well spent I got.a.4 ton vmac years ago and wish I got a bigger one but no diesel burnt carting trailers of meal every other week a pain in the hole
