Returning to study

Recently returned to study (Level 7, year 3) as a mature student with extremely limited time.

Can anyone suggest how to get assignments done as quickly and efficiently as possible?

I’m aware of various apps (OpenAI & Grammarly) which seem to be useful tools for creating an outline/template but not sure how good they are at creating Harvard-style references?

Are the Chaptgpt and/or Grammarly subscriptions worth paying for or just the free version?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Their are loads of sites like https://www.citethisforme.com/citation-generator/harvard and https://www.scribbr.co.uk/referencing/generator/harvard/ that will do referencing for you.

I would only use AI to give yourself an idea if you are stuck with a blank page, I would not use them for writing essays as the risk of plagerism.

I wouldn't use AI for essays. Basically it gets things wrong. And depending on what subjects your doing, it could be completely wrong. It will also make up references for things, if it doesn't know the actual real ones.

It is useful for understanding certain subjects, phrases etc. It can gather lots of information for you to put together your own work. You just need to know what and how to ask it questions in order to get the best out of it.

Leave grammarly, no point in it. Most assignments at level 7, the lecturer will give you a list of what they want, and the template. Get MS word through the college if you don't have it. For referencing, sites as given by @Moonbeam are good for references. Lots will say use EndNote but I personally found it a pain for the few references you will need at level 7, I use the comments ability in MS word to tag stuff, so I can see it if I delete or edit it.

I also found UCD One search good if you know the name of the paper to be able to reference stuff, a bracket sign comes up beside papers and you can click on it to get the reference and the style of reference.

Chat GPT can be good to get a layout but don't use or trust the text, the paid version is better though but again, same issues, the free version for a layout is all you should need. Make sure to paste without formatting into Word as the lines and layout are what give it away as copied from ChatGPT.
