Im thinking of purchasing a new Nissan Leaf.

I just learned the charger and it's sockets are an old spec that is being phased out.

If I was to purchase an adaptor would I be sorted? Are the adaptors expensive and where to buy one?

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm unsure as I haven't even bought the car yet :)

will you regularly be taking trips that exceed the range of the leaf?

While chademo is indeed the odd one out, it’s not phased out at all. It’s still been installed in many of the eCars triple head units I believe.

Neither type1 nor Chademo are being phased out. There are type1 to type2 adapters regularly available and chademo to ccs adapters are starting to come online.

Home charging on a leaf requires an older type 1 connection, not a big deal but if getting a home charger you may be best to get untethered,( cable not permanently connected) type charger.

If out an about on longer trips you need to find a public charger that has a Chademo connector. Many very new sites dont have these, but some new sites do. It can be a challenge on longer trips with a small battery EV and you have less charging sites than most new cars. Ideally small battery leafs are second cars for local trips within 60km full round trip (30km from home) if you get the smallest 24kWh battery size model. 30 /40 & 62kWh battery size will get you further without needing to public charge.

You mention a "new" Leaf. It comes with two chargers: an AC charger (typically for charging at home) and a DC (fast) charger (for when you're using public chargers on longer journeys). The new Leaf uses a Type 2 AC charger. This will work with any of the common home charging stations used in domestic settings (Zappi, Wallbox, etc), whether tethered or untethered. Most people do the vast majority of charging using the AC charger. The DC charger uses the Chademo standard rather than the more popular and newer CCS. Public Chademo stations are still widely accessible and probably will be for years to come. As ELM327 says, there are now CCS to Chademo adapters, but they're expensive and probably completely unnecessary for the majority of Leaf users. The extent to which you use public charging stations at all will depend on your use case. For instance, I haven't used a public charger in over 2 years.
