    Hi.

I got to get something off my mind.

So if I'm complaining or giving out...then yes & no. But I will put a complaint into the car testing..n.c.t main office.

But.. Saturday 12th October. I took my car to be tested in Ennis county Clare.

    The car is a 131 c220.

My father is a mechanic, but he only works now on his own car..the mothers car & my sister's & my car. I'm not afraid of getting oil or grease on my hands so I on my way around.

All the stories I hear of friends & work colleagues taking there car to what they call ..my mechanic..& then say the next day that the car is not..or its doing something strange or there's a noise..thank god my dad as taught me & he helps me.

Now this is my car it's a 131, but it's in very good condition, soon ever I hear a knock or something strange... anything...it's garage time & checked out & any part thats needed its done.

I value my car more than my house..why... because it takes me to work so I can be able to pay for my home. & As a lot of you know there's a bad public transport in raul area's, & I'm not the kind to ask a neighbour to give me a lift. So my car is in top condition, & I have my wife in, which I'd give my life to her if it means she lives.

So you know my car's condition.

I took it for n.c.t on above date, to above place.

It went in, done all tests, on the end test where it goes on the lift, it went up, then very shortly it came down, so I thought well ok il be called soon for report.

But it went back to rolling road for brake test. I'm thinking strange, they must of found something. It then went back on the lift for very short time. Then I was called. Pass cert given to me & a happy hand shake.

I got into the car,1st I checked that they pushed the oil dip stick in properly, it been known that it's been not in properly & oil can spit out & cause a engine fire.

I put my foot on the brake pedal (as car is auto) the brake pedal felt a bit spongy, but thought that it's been tested & the servo or brakes have been severe tested. Are well it's past...

Drove out the gate & I wasnt happy to much, & a guy feeling.

I got half way to Aldi Ennis (across road from Tesco) & the red light Brakes.. dashboard going nuts.

I got into aldi, driving very slowly,

Checked my brake fluid & only a drop in the reservoir.

I checked all round the car (the wheels where the brakes are...Der…) nothing all dry.

I ran down to banner motors got a big bottle of dot4 brake fluid. Put it in & tested the brakes. Fluid went. Major leak.

I checked my servo..brake pump.. wheels. Nothing.

But... On the back passenger side where the jack point is, the side under tray is all broke & all wet. & Guess what...brake fluid.

The f.ing NCT must of put there blocks of wood of what ever they use when they lift the cars.& bust the tray & cut a brake pipe.

I thought it was strange why it went on the life & rolling road twice.

Dam I was so p issed off, I was like a demon around the area, giving out to people in tesco (as we did shopping, well my wife) in banner motors (were i got the brake fluid). I had a ...not nice conversation to 1 or 2 people in the 2 shops, & that's not me , I'm usually quite hallo excuse me, polite kind of person.

So if any 1 from these shops or even in the car park of Aldi are reading, I'm sorry for my nasty-ness.

My sister partner as a car trailer so he rescued me. & I don't really know the guy to much, probably only been in the company 5 times when my family (parents sister) have gone for a meal.

So thank you Mikey. Really appreciate the help.

Now to fix the f up that the n.c.t as caused.

A warning to any motorists out there (that have the minute to appreciate the vehicle & the well being of them selves & or love 1's, ... I say that because I see people just treat the car badly, drive the s hit out of it,) but I have heard that the oil dip stick, where the NCT put the temperature sensor in, doesn't always get pushed in properly & oil does spit out& if goes onto manifold or exhaust can cause issues. Brake pedal..if it's any kind of soft or spongy, the NCT do hit the brake's on the rolling road for brake test.

Even if you get a pass report.....just give it 1 minute check. When you drive out that gat ...there's nothing you can do.. they will take no responsibility. Even if your on there premises it will be hard to prove.

What I think is the problem…

The NCT, is it a joke or not.

    Yes & no.

If they find something I've missed (as I no my around) or for some one that's not got a clue about cars. Then I would thank the NCT.

But if they find something stupid like door handle on the outside rear (like my friend car). Then I think...come on. It's money racket.

But with the amount of cars there pushing though the centre's, then there's going to be mistakes, when we rush or very busy, mistakes are made by all of us. But in the NCT centre's come on.....

Government or who ever owns the NCT ...listen to the people... Open more centre's around. The amount of backlog & cars out there not tested.

That NCT centre above. My parents had there NCT at 11.45 pm ...11.45 PM ..come on ..that should give you an idea that we need to open another few. Don't quote me ..but did I hear that the centre as to fail 5% of cars, so that either the centre makes more money or makers that the NCT does a good job.

Thanks you lot for reading. Sorry to all the people in Ennis ( Tesco, banner motors & Aldi car park.)

Not sure if it's worth complaining to the office.

Thanks all. Have a good weekend 👍

Did you go back to the NCT centre and confront them about the damage they'd supposedly done to your car, what did they say?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,513 ✭✭✭BrianD3

Why would the tester have put the car on the rolling road a second time - because he knew that he had damaged a brake line and wanted see that the brakes still worked (temporarily)?

    Hi deregos , braind3.

    How you doing.

Er, no mate, didn't go back in, couldn't get there, if I did all Id be doing is getting my stress levels up cuz they wouldn't do anything, what can they of done. But then saying that...your probably thinking, ' this guy will let you do anything to his car & he'll do nothing '.

Rolling road twice, I thought they'd found something that I'd missed or... Didn't think they'd be checking for something that they thought they did.

I do my own car with dad's help. & I enjoy it. We striped down my mother Opel 2.0 diesel insignia engine & re-built it (recon) (she got a cheap car with engine damage), the fix / parts cost about €200 quid, every Saturday for 4 hours ISH.. 5 weeks. Car is a little rocket.

But with what I say above about the Opel & the work involved, I did check that I did this & that correct & to re-check some parts for torque after torquing them. So to check something I wouldn't say that's a bad thing.

But when the NCT tester brought the car out, wouldn't he of had to use the brake pedal a few times & then he'd have known, what he was checking wasn't right. Then called me in.

Iv been called in past (yrs ago) & they shown me a brake line behind the diff on my old BMW.

    Thanks deregos braind3.i

I'm still peed off. Car is off road at the sisters & I've borrowed my wifes Kia ceed 2011, great little car, full NCT ...don't ...it's from the same test centre…😂.

You'd imagine that NCT centres have a protocol in place in event of such accidental damage occurring to a car being tested on their premises. For example . . If they did actually damage the brakes, but chose to not inform the owner and try and cover it up, and the owner is killed in a crash whilst driving it home, the accident investigation team aren't gonna have much trouble figuring out that the initial damage to the brakes was done in the testing centre.

Add the fact that he didn't go straight back in and complain to them makes the story somewhat unplausible when you think it all through.

Glad to see ... That would be the wrong way of saying, forgive me.

Im not the only person..& on this boards.ie site with NCT lift issues.

I read this about a person with an A4.

    Talk to you again all.

Safe driving please. Mind your love 1's & your car & your bank balance. Roads will be a safer place.

    👍.

True deregos, but with a pass report & disc.

My word against there's, & parts ..new & old.. can break. & I've left the centre, I could of gone down a bad pot hole or hit a rock (I've seen some big rocks on the road).

All I'm thinking of is getting the car into safety. Aldi car park was the closest.

Getting the car checked, (my eyes).

Then seeing the damage, getting the car home or to the parents (garage).

& The wife is doing shopping (as I went to banner motors. Fair dos to the lads in there.. listening to me really give out & I did swear f f, I did apologise to them just before I left). I got to make sure she's safe (taxi with shopping home).

Didn't have time to go back.

In future I will check my car out more intensely before departing NCT . With certain parts on my camera before I go in.

Trust nothing. I hate car garages. Some mechanics out there are good workers really are, & they don't spare the time to do a proper job. Some out there are repairing a customer car & at the same time deliberately doing something so that the customer as to go back in a few weeks so the mechanic makes money.

Thanks for the talk, a little bit eased, now to put my head into the fix gear. Get out of the look at the damage something/someone else as caused.

    Laters deregos.

    Be good 👍

Exactly what's needed. Take your anger out on the Boards.ie platform.

Jaysis you should've went back in to the NCT centre immediately so the same staff would've been there etc.

Annoying, but complaints here won't do anything. Glad you caught it before it was too late.

It happens. Personally i would have went straight back and made an official complaint they have procedures in place for this exact kind of event.

Sorry folk I not taking anger out here.

Yeah pe'd off. Letting of steam. Letting you know that it is happening.

I do think it's arse way ... Let's test the brakes before we see them so if the brakes fail the car will smash into the 1in front on the test. It's geared for € not safety. Ramp visual check. Pipes ok. Brake test. Emissions test. Go home.

I'd left the NCT centre, 2.30 ISH. Aldi carpark about 5 minutes away drive, 20 on foot.

Main concern was like I say, get car & wife home. By time I got car off trailer got picked up from sister house it was 6.30 ISH. Without the car it would of been pointless again going back.

Sorry if you think I'm being angry on here. I'm not.

    Pot holes 👍😄.

Yeah main thing markr was, I still alive to talk on here 👍 & not to read about the crash what would of happened involving a merc & another car.

Nothing I can do pointless putting in a email complaint. Just got to get on fix it. Give you folk a heads up on so called tests. Same time letting steam off. So yeah this site as helped thank you.

    Drive safe folk.

    Laters.

Do you have any pictures of the damage or your NCT report ?

The NCT use compacted foam blocks that spread the load over an area , I would be surprised that one would cause damage to a brake line thats reasonably well protected on the c220 , even if it was directly placed under a brake line .

Why in your mind you think they didn't fail you on it ?

Did you ask any questions on why it went back to the rollers a second time , as there can be various different reasons for this and not attributed to the damage that you allege they have done .

Is it possible this damage was already there and only the brake line failed after the brake were put to the test .. You got a pass report so obviously the car wasn't leaking fluid severely at the time of the brake tests… otherwise it would have failed on imbalance or performance

Also FYI there is not a temperature sensor placed in the dipstick tube , removal of the dipstick is to only check oil level if required . Also there is no mandate to fail a percentage of cars , you really think that would get by unions , audits and every worker loves their employer enough to not grass them up about that ? C'mon

have you found the source of the fluid loss yet?
