Have not paid TV license in a a couple of years. Name on TV license letters was always "The Occupier" - so was neither here nor there.

TV license inspector called 2 weeks ago and the wife gave her name 🙄

So latest letter has wife's name on it, am I stung now and have to pay this crap?

Money is tight enough as it is

Like most people, I am just so bitter about paying this with the whole RTE scandal

Unless you're willing to play a long game of cat and mouse and potentially end up in the district court, yes.

Or don't have a TV obviously.

Names vs The Occupier is of no material significance.

But the fact that they have called, identified your wife and possibly that there is an unlicensed television, they may now initiate a prosecution.

Why don’t you just get rid of the television?

well they cant bring "The occupier" to court as far as I am aware.

I use the TV for gaming and streaming etc

The letters are merely a courtesy or reminder. The obligation is on the occupier to hold a licence.

If a polish friend moved in and they bought a licence, then any arrears would disappear and the name on the system would change. My buddy moved into a new gaff and asked in post office about how to buy a licence. He got one.
