This is quite the interesting read, the following points key points are quite alarming.

    • Young people were increasingly being drawn into online extremism, with 13% of those investigated for terrorism involvement aged under 18

    • A total of 43 late-stage plots involving firearms and explosives to commit "mass murder" in the UK had been foiled since 2017

    • The number of state-threat investigations by MI5 had increased by 48%

    • Counter-terrorism work remained split between "75% Islamist extremism, 25% extreme right-wing terrorism"

Seeing out close proximity to the UK, I wonder if we'd get caught in the cross fire? Either way, ot looks like Russian and Iran are upto no good, and trying to cause more trouble in this neighbourhood.

If I were a paranoid individual, I'd be convinced that Russia, Iran... and China may become the mordern 'axis of evil'.

We have multiple threads on Iran (& Israel) and Russia. It gets annoying switching between them. Do we really another one with a combo of the two?

Those are about on going conflicts. This is about how those countries are sowing discord in western countries via various means.

I didn't feel it right to talk about it in those topics, and didn't want to give moderators a reason to thread ban for going off topic.

Seems to be more likely made up of domestic threats as opposed to any international axis of evil:

Responding to questions from reporters, he reiterated concerns about the role of the internet being the "biggest factor" driving the trend, and described how easily youngsters could access material from their bedrooms.

A high proportion of the threat was made up by “lone individuals indoctrinated online" he said.

“In dark corners of the internet, talk is cheap. Sorting the real plotters from armchair extremists is an exacting task,” he said.

“Anonymous online connections are often inconsequential, but a minority lead to deadly, real world actions.”

No doubt the Internet is very much the tool used to nurture extremism. However, a lot of the material that is causing this will be funded/created by government employed groups.

For a long time I have believed that the west has a military that os viewed by those three countries to be too powerfula to take on. So, the new war they wage is a cyber war.

Seeing as the internet is heavily restricted in those countries... I'd say not a lot, a bit, but nothing of a significant impact. The regimes of those countries do more to create discord in their own country I'd wager.
