Heater Smell

I have a radiator type electric heater giving off a strong smell. It stings the eyes and catches in the chest. The smell is coming from the vent, not the body.

This is the second year of use. There was no smell last winter. Tonight was the first time switching on after being unused over the summer.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Hi, if it's the first time using it in a while then it's probably just the dust burning off the element. Just check the vents for blockages such as dust-bunnies and spider-webs and then leave it running on high temperature and in plain sight and a window open for 15 mins. It should all resolve itself then.

Ran it there for an hour but no better. I think it's the oil that's causing the smell.

Oh so it's an oil filled radiator. But is there oil visible on the exterior?

No oil on the exterior. Smell is coming straight up out of the vent on top.
