New technology Water Softner System?

I have a conventional salt based water softner solution which is 4 years old. I use an external salt container and put salt like AXAL salt PRO in it. I was told that this type of main water softners are harmfull to body on long term use. Also there is chance of fungal buildup etc.

Do any of the companies provide alternative new generation main water descaling (limescale remover) at a reasonable cost?

Any suggestions?

Harmful to the body in what way? As far as I am aware all these new technology are just marketing gimmicks like EWT gold etc... the chemistry of softening water has not changed...

Stick to the tried and tested clack devices as the will use less salt. Also pre and post filtration available to differing purities as required

Who told you that? Did they provide any evidence of this by a study or anything or just threw it out there.

I did. and there is nothing about them being harmful so maybe provide a link to the study.

Perhaps an alternative solution would be to connect a tap to the supply before it reaches the softener and use that for drinking.
