Used Car Decision: Skoda Superb Combi 2.0 Diesel vs. BMW e330 M Sport Touring

I am lucky enough to be in a position to spend decent change on a new (to me) car this year. My current car is 2008 so this will be a major upgrade. I am finding it hard to choose between the above two  cars.  I am looking at 2021 or 2022 in general. I am tempted by the BMW as my partner has an X1 plug in hybrid for work and it's great. The plug in for me would make a big difference.

Factors: Budget - I am happy to put 15k down and finance rest - upper budget is around 35k. I need boot space for a large dog. I cover 18-20,000km per year. My work commute is 18km each way so the hybrid battery would just about cover my commute and I already have outdoor 3 pin socket where I park. I do have buried cables to ultimately install a charger down line. I am worried re cost of maintenance for the BMW (I likely won't buy from a BMW dealer)

I would be interested to hear any advice / opinions

I (well the wife) currently has a 330e Tourer and I used to have an 2011 Superb Combi. For useful boot space the superb will be in a different league to the BMW. The boot in the BMW is quite limited and the interior space is much less than the 330e.

I put over 400,000km on my old Superb and it was a boring, conservative reliable motor - which I miss terribly. I really loved it.

However, I aslo really love the 330e - we have dogs also and it's perfectly fine for two full sized dogs. The ride is quite harsh (MSport Pro version) and as we live rurally damaged tyres is a regular thing.

Take both for a test drive and see what you prefer - space and comfort or driving dynamics

The superb will have more space but depends how much you need that space, I have 2 labradors and they happily go in the boot of my Cupra Born which will be smaller than 330e boot. Just remove the parcel shelf and they look into the car and are happy enough.

I havent had full car of 5 people plus luggage plus dogs but if I did I would be using my etron

If you think you'll carry people and dogs and luggage then maybe the superb might be a better bet, if not, then the 330e is probably a better drivers car.

I had a 530e and spent about 50% of time of distance travelled on petrol and 50% on electricity, was more economical overall than the diesel A6 we had at the same time. I also travel about 20k kms per year and I found the constant watching battery range a bit tiresome as I liked using battery as much as possible. Hence the move to full EVs.

To echo poster above, I test drove 330e msport and didnt like the harsh ride in it so make sure you are ok with this. They always do well with reviewers as they handle well but I found it was at a cost to comfort. Same as my cupra really, I am done with sporty versions of cars I prefer the comfort

As a Superb driver I could not live with the 'downgrade' to a 330 in terms of sheer practicality, space and running costs. Just as I am sure a 330 driver would miss the driving experience moving to a Superb.

However, based on what you described I can't see any reason to consider a Superb, unless perturbed by potential running costs on the 330, or you feel in the near future you will have a requirement for additional space in which case the Superb is the more future proof option.
