Why does Lyric fm not provide track and artist information for their programmes?

you could say that about other RTE Radio programmes, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't

Which programme were you looking track information for? I had a look on a desktop and found if I go to play an episode, I get track details of all tracks. Example: https://www.rte.ie/radio/lyricfm/niall-carrolls-classical-daytime/2024/1001/1472984-niall-carrolls-classical-daytime-tuesday-1-october-2024/

Great hearing Donal Dineen on the Mystery Train this week. I didn't know he was on, but tuned in last night and heard some mad African keyboard William Onyeabor type stuff…said to the Mrs, "this all sounds very Donal Dineen" and it was!!

The tune playing at the time was "O Nketsang" by Rex Rabanye, fantastic stuff 😀

He’s been popping up fairly regularly in the last while - he’s stood in on Vespertine and Blue of the Night in recent months. Good to hear him again on the national airwaves

Is that a podcast? I was talking about listening live, The Full Score with Liz Nolan, for example.

I’m sure the RTE radio app says what they are playing live

It doesn't. The RTE radio player used to (for RTE Gold songs played anyway, but not for voice-tracked shows)

Marty in the morning for me, he's brilliant a break away from the world.

The opposite, the sound of Marty ruins my day

I would agree with that. I think he would fit in very well there.

I would also agree with the above. I enjoy Marty in the Morning on Lyric, but Gold would definitely be a better fit, and the more live shows there the better.

Of course Gold would be the idel home for Marty Whelan, it's just by accident of time he ended up on Lyric, back when he was dropped from 2fm to make way for colm and Jim Jim, ( The early Spring of 2006 iirc) RTE Gold didn't yet exist, let alone have any schedule or djs which didn't happen until 2014.

He brings people to lyric that probably wouldn't normally be a lyric listener. There's enough throughout the day on lyric to satisfy the discerning listeners. No different than breakfast shows on the likes of classic FM etc. It's early in the morning people are getting ready for work/commuting etc. He's grand out.

The non-classical musical content, terrible interviews and raging, ADHD style "banter" is a million miles away from the Classic FM morning show. They seem to run a totally classical playlist, 20 to 25 second links and no badly researched interviews.

But hey, if you like it - you like it.

It is a cancerous tumour wedged into what should be a public service music and arts channel.

There's plenty of non classical musical content on lyric. It's not a classical music station.

It's a light hearted show at a time when people are in general not actively listening. It's usually background noise for kitchens making the kids lunches or on the commute to work.

It's not designed for critical listening. At that time, nor should it.

With regards to classic FM I was more referring to the light hearted nature of the breakfast presenter and general mood of the show.

just like the old RTE days on Lyric FM this evening, not being able to bring us normal programming (mystery train with john kelly??), so playing back to back classical music with intermittent continuity announcements from an unidentified female naming the song played and explaining that technical difficulties are preventing the scheduled programme being aired.

wondering is this a back-up tape going out on-air or is it a live continuity announcer ??

I think john kelly pre-records his sunday evening show, so I am guessing with the Christmas / New Year break / not being a normal sunday night, there was no programme in the playout system from john or if he is usually live there is a broken line fron donnybrook to limerick ??

Yeah heard this last night as we would have the Mystery Train on in the background...assumed it was something to do with the weather and whoever had the keys to Lyric in Limerick not making it in from a snowy area!
