Difference between Tutorials, Lab Lecture, Practical, Lecture?

    Hello everyone!

    Successfully entered to 3rd level education in Ireland, but, there is some different types of lessons, and, as i am first year student i don't understand meaning of Tutorials, Lab Lecture, Practical, Lecture, what the difference between them or their purpose?

    What behavior should be during classes? Where students can ask questions and where it is is inappropriate?

    Do not consider post as stupid, just I had another experience of education in past and would do my best for further 4 years.

    If you would like to share your Higher Education experience i would be delighted to read about it :-)

    Depends on the lecturer on the asking questions thing, the better ones will take it during class, the worse ones will say wait till the end or not take them at all. In terms of the differences, depends on the course but typically (from a science background): Tutorial - small group, learning a specific skill or knowledge area, often is a problem based learning type thing.

    Lab lecture - never heard of it but presume it's a demonstration in the lab.

    Practical - this is a lab, you might have a mini intro lecture, a set of SOPs and you go and do whatever it is in the lab under supervision. Typically you do a write up afterwards.

    Lecture - basically a class, someone at the top talks at you, if they are good you can ask questions but it is basically a fancier, grown up version of a class where you will be treated as an adult, ask questions, don't, doesn't matter. Turn up, don't, your call (although studies show students who show up do better).
