Hi. I posted recently about our underfloor heating breaking down. Had a guy out, plenty of UFH experience and he took a look at the system. Turns out, it's completely clapped out. It was neglected before we bought the house and after nearly 20 years, the system just has given up. The pumps and manifolds all need to be replaced. It's an old system that needs modernising. We got the quote today, and it's come to around 10k. That's to replace manifolds, pumps, actuators and the controls on three floors. We really know nothing about UFH aside from how to turn it on and off. Given that, I just wanted to get an opinion on the general price range. I've been chasing plumbers for 2 weeks now, and this is the first company that actually sound like they know what they're doing, so we're eager to proceed, but not if the quote exceeds what'd be expected. Any opinion appreciated.

The most important thing to get value from underfloor heating is the insulation under the pipes especially on the ground floor. I'd be slow to throw 10 grand at new fixtures and fittings unless I knew for sure it was properly insulated underneath. There's no sense in spending 5 figures to heat the ground underneath your house.

Fair point. The heating has been working the last few years, but we noticed last year that there were places we were getting less and less heat. This year, nothing. Once of the manifolds heats up just below the manifold that mixes cold and hot water. One of the pumps heats up. But none of the three work fully. When we moved in, it all worked well. But that was a while ago. Part of this is my own failure to get it serviced sooner.

Assuming that the heat pump previously worked satisfactorily, there's no reason to assume that there's a lack of insulation below the pipes. Considering the age of the house, it's probably a good bit less than what is standard now though.

I don't have much experience with the cost of replacing a heat pump but we bought an 8kW HP for a new build earlier this year for 5500; I have no idea what other work is involved in the rest of what you've listed though

We haven’t seen it, so difficult to say. But 10k seems a lot. I would suggest at least one other price.

Can it be flushed out.. I know I asked my plumber and he said UFH never needs a flush, but what is the blockage. What is wrong with the manifold..Your plumber might be of the opinion that there are many bits nit working, but maybe itemised you might see well here is a few.things which are cheap to repair.
