Got a weed licker during the week, want to do a few acres that have some rushes that were topped during the summer so are nice and fresh now.

Have some agroxone 50, wondering what rate to mix it to. My tank is 75 litres. Would I need much and any advice on speed and how often to wet the carpet

    Thanks

Anywhere around 1.5 to 2 litres to the fill of the tank should be more than enough I would imagine. (Officially though, MCPA products are not licenced for use on a weed-licker. If you are using it do not record as having applied with a licker)

Forward speed will be mostly dictated by your ground conditions. I just tip away as quickly as I can go without being tossed around inside the cab of the tractor, no speedo in the tractor but I'd be first high 1500rpm, same as you would topping etc.. I would assume if you were using a quad then you could go a bit quicker.

The wetting of the carpet is a tough one, if you have a heavy crop you would want to be going regular enough, light crop and you'll be going for ages without doing anything. I assume you have a roller type. If it is too wet and you are travelling too fast then you will have a bit of fling from the roller that you will want to avoid. Practice will see what works best for you and if you have rushes then you will get plenty of it.

Get your height right so that you aren't hitting any grass if possible as that will obviously take some of the chemical. You want to be getting as much as you can on the rush obviously so try to hit more of it than the top couple of inches. If you can get them from both directions then you will get a better kill. Personally, on fields that have a heavy crop I just do one direction and after grazing I head back and go the opposite way with what's left over. Fields where the rushes are thinned out will be done both directions same day.

Licker is only a management tool and you will not completely kill the feckers. An hour or 2 once a month though and you will definitely control them.

How good is MCPA on rushers though?

    40 to 1 is enough.

If its too strong , it will burn the leaves but wont get into the root.

Weak . It travels down to the root.

If you travel too fast liquid can be thrown from the carpet.

Keep the carpet saturated. It will transfer to the rushes better.dont stop eithre. The spray will rain from the carpet. The rotating roller will hold an aweful lot of spray

I use a litre to 50 litres water. Roughly what it says on the drum.
