Deep well pump leak

    Hi,

My dad bought this pump at the end of june:

    https://toplineclearys.ie/collections/pumps/products/1-hp-deep-well-c-w-60l-hydrotube

Replacingthe same one which had developed a leak, I had understood after a number of years of service.

The new one now has a leak in the same place:

It's at the back of that black box where it joins the casing. I've no idea what this box is called or why it would always be suceptilbe to leaks. It seems to be just made from plastic.

Would anybody have a reccomendation for a decent 1 hp pump to supply water to drinkers for cattle? Would anybody know what this part is called, can I get a stronger replacement?

I don't have access to the pump myself at the moment to look at it and my dad can't use a smart phone so I've very limited info as to the nature of the leak I'm afraid.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Surely still under some kind of warranty yet? Can you get it contact with supplier to come out and look?

Yeah I've sent a few messages but they musn't be great at checking. I'll ring this afternoon if they don't get back to me, just handier to show via email than explain on the phone.

I don't want him to get the same one again though if it's going to keep happening with this pump, maybe there's something more robust - nothing in the topline shop he got his one…..

Can't really help much other than to say submersible pumps are supposed to be superior to overground pumps if situation allows, maybe someone else might confirm.

Looks like that might be the pressure stat or switch under that black plastic cover. Possibly only a screw in fitting. If so a roll of thread tape, screw it off and reinstall with new thread tape.

Thanks at least I've a clue as to what the part is. I assume it could be replaced with something more robust. the leak is actually on the box I think, i probably described it wrong, at the back there is a small length sticking out to go to the threaded fitting and there is a pinhole leak on this…i'll confirm that with dad but i'm quite sure that's what he said.

YYeah I'd say the same. They get pinhole leaks in them occasionally. Easy to fix

Is the fix to get a new pressure switch? or is there another fix (not much experience with pumps)

I rang them up as no reply to emails, at least I was able to say pressure switch is leaking, as i didn't know what it was prior to this thread.

Yeah the supplier rang my dad, they are looking for a photo now though so he's trying to find somebody to call over with a camera phone..the next mission. They sounded helpful though so I've confidence they'll assist. I said we wanted to avoid disconnecting the pump and sending it back so optimistic they can supply a new switch.

I wonder is there something in our water that's causing these to leak. I thought we had the previous pump for a number of years before it went but dad said it was only months also. If I realised that i'd have not ordered the same again. Means we have two pumps that just need a pressure switch.

I'm guesssing the switch has to be plastic as there's electrics inside, hopefully our water isn't very acidic or something.

I know of one place, they have high iron in the water and it causes the pump to burn out once a year.

Thanks I think we have a lot of iron in the water... This could be the issue!

Have they ever got it tested? Cost's around €125 to €250 depending on what it's for or cheaper for single item testing. Do they know they can get a grant from the county council of 85% for a new treatment system or a new well and associated works every 7 years? If not get them to look into it. It's a bit of work on their end doing all the council stuff and tests but could be the cheapest fix long term.

Don't expect anything from life, just be grateful to be alive.

Have that here. Always have a spare on the shelf. As soon as pressure drops I change the pump before it takes the motor out too. I save descaler from the milking machine and pump it through the clogged pump a few times and this clears it. Rinsi it in clean water and then that goes on the shelf til next time. It's a pain in the hoop but I have bored 3 wells and they are all the same.

Do you just notice a pressure drop? or do you get any leaks? If no links do you know what make and model the pump is and the pressure switch?

Although we have two pumps now with this pressure switch so might be worth sticking with them. I just wonder if there's a more robust pressure switch that would last longer with the water.

My pump is a submersible mp3 so a completely different set up.

Ya just noticed a pressure drop in the milking parlour and it's time to change.
