Who is deserving of going on a stamp?

I’d choose, Kevin Barry, Padraig Pearse, Bobby Sands, James Connolly, Charles Stuart Parnell, Arthur Griffith, Roger Casement, Eamon Ceannt.

Apart from Bobby Sands everyone of those you listed are on stamps already. Bobby Sands went one better though and has a street named after him .

...but I don't think there's a collective term for stamp collectors and coin collectors, in fact after a little research I don't think they really like each other at all

As we go through our auction bid book, we can pretty much tell what country we are selling, without reference to the lot descriptions, by the ethnic component of the names of the bidders. As you move through the alphabet, you have Chinese bidding on Chinese stamps, Greeks on Greece, and so on. When you get to Silver Tax, Postage Currency, and Encased Postage, you often find completely different names from the traditional philatelic buyers indicating that these lots are selling to coin collectors. There is only one other area like this in US philately. Duck stamps not only sell to stamp collectors; they have an avid following among duck hunters as well.

Charles Stewart Parnell was on a stamp in 1991 to mark 100 years since his death. And as someone else said, has a street named after him and a statue.

No problem with some of the war of independence people. Lots of others could be on the OP's list of candidates. But Padraig Pearse is already a suspect for paedo stuff based on some of his poetry. Talking about kissing young boys lips and wondering if they or himself is better for the experience. I wouldn't put him on the coins.

But lots of others could be there. Lots of women took an active part in the rising and war of independence.

But I wouldn't necessarily choose that era. Seamus Heaney would be a good candidate.

Honouring someone on a stamp was useful at a time in when used stamps and to they were very visible in society.

But communication has changed and stamps are no longer what they were.

So rather than ask who should be on a stamp I think we should start with asking where we can put an image of the people we wish to honour so that the honour is meaningful.

There's a list posted up there with probably hundreds of people who've featured on our stamps, you'd be surprised by some of the names, Nathan Carter isn't even the worst, (and plenty of smaller sportspeople than Kellie also)
