I asked UPS to deliver a letter from Stillorgan to Blackrock.....bloody €14 for a standard A4 envelope are they having a laugh.

Dont even get me started on DHL wanting to change me €20.

As much as I hate An Post with their awful customer service and "sorry we missed you" notes the shipping companies are much worse.

Yes but for those same prices you can send a small parcel, with tracking & insurance so it’s not actually a bad value at all.

If you’re looking at a courier to ship a letter unless it is of vital importance or quite valuable An Post are the go to.

An Post Registered Mail is only €9 national and €20 international not to mention most other places charge €30-€100 this is nuts to deliver one sheet of paper.

Sadly I have to stick with An Post and their non existent customer service

Deliver it yourself if everything else is a ripoff! It's only a few mins away.

It doesn't matter if it's a parcel or single sheet of paper it costs them the same to deliver

You will find it is not only in Ireland that the state owned postal service is less expensive by far than a privately owned courier company.

I really can’t imagine why you expected to ship an envelope via private courier for a few euro.

It's literally a piece of paper it's already crazy that a pack of stamps cost €20 in the USA they send post for a few cents us Irish are getting ripped off

Oh and they never delivered it and refused a refund so I paid €14 for nothing what a joke

Not sure where you get your USA rates from, but they are not cheap.

A large envelope weighing 100g will cost $2.31 , standard size of same weight will cost $1.57.

Very lightweight envelope - maybe 2 sheets of paper will be a bit cheaper.

If you want to send it registered, that's an extra $19

Stillorgan to Blackrock will cost the same for Stillorgan to Glenties. If you were not able to deliver it personally, then a taxi might have been cheaper for such a short distance.

The location makes little difference to a courier company. I use DPD for parcels. If I wanted to send from a warehouse in Stillorgan industrial estate to another warehouse 5 doors down via DPD, the parcel is collected, brought to Robinhood, put into a truck, sent to athlone, sorted, back into a truck, brought to Robinhood and most likely put back into the exact same van that collected it the day previously. That actually is the most efficient business way of managing the package as it goes with the flow - if the flow breaks, problems occur.
