Currently with gomo, like it, but vodaphone network would have better support especially when roaming, have always had issues with gomo doing that.

Wondering what their service is like so far

    Better speeds?

kids constantly complaining about gomo's 5G. (I'm old enough to remember edge & 3G, but kids today…)

Much better. My kids are the same, I switched them over aswell and no more complaints so I'm not complaining. 😅

If you switch to Sky mobile you'll quickly get reacquainted with Edge, as Sky 4/5 G network degrades to 2G during calls, with NO Data on your maps as you drive, or hotspot on your tablet if wfh while on a call. You'd wish for 3G, but Sky's carrier Vodafone have discontinued 3G. I switched from anpost mobile (also on Vodafone) precisely because they done nothing about this when it happened. Sky even mention switching on your 4g voice ( VoLTE) and wifi calling on your iPhone, for what I wonder if you're dumped to 2G during a call. The very first post to their new skymoblle community forum was a complaint about no 4G calling. I've swapped one lame MVNO for another it seems.

Is that what it is? I find I’m getting thrown on EDGE even if I’m not on a call. Like if I’m in a shop or something where I used to have perfect 5G with Vodafone I will only get EDGE. It takes ages for 5G to come back if at all. Normally I have to reboot the phone or the toggle airplane mode. Still, it’s only €15 a month versus like €67 I was paying Vodafone

Agreed 100%. I ordered SKY Mobile on Tuesday. Sims for 2 accounts (of 4 ordered) arrived yesterday. One was for a new account, the other was porting an existing number with Virgin. I activated these 2 sims last night. Alarm bell #1 went off when my existing number didn't port. I had a new 089 number. Then, I started to dig a little deeper. I live in an urban area and work in a rural area. The differences in speeds between Sky and VM are stark. At work, (old building out in countryside) internal download speeds with Sky of 12.0Mbps and by window 9.1Mbps. Upload speeds of 0.05Mbps & 0.19Mbps. Comparatively, VM download speeds of 27.1Mbps internal 73.6Mbps by window. Upload speeds of 3.19Mbps & 3.24 Mbps. Network coverage on way to work was erratic with Sky. dropping out frequently whereas VM was consistent with no issues. These are not like for like services. Cancelled the Sky accounts this morning within the 14 day cooling off period. Charged 50c for each account! This for a service i have cancelled within 12 hours of activating (7 hours of which was spent asleep!). They will take that by DD. Also concerned with reports of Sky network not receiving 2FA texts. I would advise, if you are content with your current provider, stay put. Fingers crossed now that the port request doesn't happen after the fact. VM have told me there is a port in progress on my original number. Sky has told me (via call centre in India) that there is no port request active. I'm concerned but VM have promised to keep me updated.

Believe it or not, I tried them, left, and went back!

I was with Sky for a trial period and they were mostly fine, didn't have any of the issues mentioned on the other thread. I just chickened out of the 12 month contract. I wanted to use GoMo, badly, and I think that clouded my judgement. But the coverage was just too bad for me. I also had a weird issue where e-mails wouldn't push to me, which I had on Meteor many years ago so am surprised it happened again for me on that network. I mostly wanted them for the Wi-Fi calling while roaming, but I had to decide not to degrade my home experience for the sake of two weeks a year. GoMo just didn't suit me.

From my experience, iPhones seem to work better than Android on Sky. VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling and 5G work fine for me on an iPhone 13.

For people worried about cancelling in contract and sky vanishing their precious ported number into oblivion, read this from their Ts&Cs. They'll save your number for 13 months.

If you don't transfer your number when leaving Sky, the number will be held for 13 months. If you still don't transfer the number during this time, it will be recycled and you'll be unable to recover it.
