Went to my GP and we agreed I would be referred to a private consultant. Got a letter from said consultant for appointment in 5 months time. I thought the point of a private consultant was that you would skip the queues?

certain specialities have longer wait times. If it’s five months private, I’d hate to think what it’s like in the public system

Yeah as above - I know someone recently -6 week wait for a geriatric consultant - again private - so all depends on discipline

If you can get to the consultant at short notice then you could ask them to swap you in for any cancelled appointments by other patients.

I was over a year and a half waiting for a consultant here in Galway. Private

Is waiting time for private the same as for waiting time with health insurance? Surely they cannot discriminate given that it is effectively all private anyway?
