    hi all

Gonna invest in an infrared thermometer. Think it will come in handy for balancing radiators, heat loss, even cooking or just in general. If I’m gonna buy one I want a good one.

    Any suggestions or recommendations. Thanks

The laser point-and-read type or the full IR camera one?

I got one included with my Ooni pizza oven. It's fine. I most commonly use it for cooking.

The main differentiator is beam spread, the narrower the spread the more expensive due to optics. Mine is 12:1 which works fine for my purposes (I'm rarely pointing at things far away).

It's handy to get one with multiple laser dots to show the beam spread.

None of them are accurate on all surfaces due to varying emissivity, that's just physics.

Also consider a digital contact thermometer which should be more accurate particularly on small targets or reflective surfaces, and is much cheaper.
