Beginner looking to start playing golf

As the title says, I'm a complete beginner to golf in which I've never played 18 holes before. I have played round of 12 holes which was 4 ball with work and I really enjoyed it. I've been to the driving range from to time. I do have my own clubs which were gifted to me so they will do for the start until I get more into it. I've asked around before and it was recommended to give golf a go to make new friends and to get out into the fresh air/walk around etc. So I have some questions in regards to code/ethics and manners?

First of is it okay for to go and play golf on my own? As I am completely new to it I obviously will be slowing people down and some of my shots might be embarrassing. Or do you need to go in groups?

Should I give a 18 hole course a go too or should I stick to par3 or 12 holes to try and practice first?

In regards to if there is someone behind me when I'm playing obviously I'll be slower or take more shots. Can you tell people to go ahead of you?

If there is anything else I forgot, could you please point out to me.

Loads of people, myself included, enjoy solo golf. Heading up on your own in the evening after work can be a very relaxing experience. And don't worry about hitting bad shots. Some of us have been playing for decades and still hit terrible shorts all the time.

If you're holding people up, definitely let them play through. You don't want them right up your arse, and they don't want to by stuck behind you. Vast majority of people will be very appreciative if you let them play through.

And play as many or as few holes as you like. Depending on the course, there may be an easy 9/12/14 holes that gets you back near the clubhouse. Go up and just hit the ball. Don't worry about anyone else, and just have some fun.

And you can blame us in a few years when you've spent thousands of euros on gear 🤣

Well that's what I was kinda thinking with the solo golf just finish work in the evening and go off there for a while instead of going to the pub. None of my friends would be into golf so I wouldn't even ask them.

Do you have to complete a round of golf? say for instance playing a 18 hole and you get annoyed or not fully enjoying it can you just head back at any time?

Shur it would only be an investment on yourself spending thousands 😂

I second kiith there, playing solo can be really enjoyable especially in the evening when courses are less busy and you can go at your own pace. Personally I started by playing par 3 courses because they were good to get a handle on iron play and being around the greens, when I was playing full courses I wasn't getting off the tee and would be deflated before I even came to hit and Iron shot.

I'd also strongly recommend at least a couple of lessons at the start, just to give you some fundamentals to work off of.

Where are you based? If you're anywhere Swords/North Dublin, give me a shout and we can play a round. I've been playing about 18 months so if you're ever looking for a buddy who's also beginner, drop me a line.
