    hi all,

I am going to a family wedding this weekend and went to an post today to exchange money from my account using Bank Card.

I got £600 in sterling for present and money while at it.

I was asked a whole heap of questions, I had to show ID, give my home address, sign a form and then I was asked what the money was for?

i haven’t exchanged money in years so all new to me but never remembered being asked all this before for exchanging a few hundred. I asked the lady why I need to provide all this and she said it’s anti laundering measures. She said it’s all tracked now how much people exchange it which is fair enough but i through it was all a bit extreme or maybe I’m just naive!

    From An Post's website

Anti Money Laundering legislation means we are required to check personal ID for customers changing over €1,000

That’s interesting, unless the lady today made a mistake and thought she had to do it for any amount.

I had to provide ID to An Post when buying £40 last year!

Yes, they seem to do it for all amounts.
