    Hi Folks,

I just noticed my old thread here is missing most if not all its images, probably since the migration. Can you help?

I can see loads of images on your posts on there. Are you not seeing any at all? Is there a specific example post you could link to that's missing images?

I see loads of images in that thread, including in a load of your posts.

Under the old system, we had to host images with a 3rd party and then reference them in a post using the image's URL. If for some reason the images on the 3rd party hosting were not available any more (deleted, or blocked from hot linking by the 3rd party) they won't show up in the thread any more, and there's nothing anyone can do about that. So there is loads of threads around with missing images, but that's not Boards' or the migration's fault. There are some broken images in the thread, and it's likely they have just been deleted from their 3rd party hosting over time.

The one (and probably only) good feature about the migration to Vanilla is that you can upload photos directly to it, which makes things easier and will help keep threads intact.

    Folks,

There seems to be some confusion about the thread in question. I am referring to this thread - https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2056382707/a-lean-to-tale-with-pics-maybe-vids/p1

From post 1, the images seem to be missing.

I see 9 photobucket images of your house and various design mockups onm the first post. Is there meant to be more?

It must be settings on your device, I can see the images in that thread.

I can see them on mobile but not on my pc. Both are using chrome browser but the pc has adblockers and other stuff that could be affecting it by not showing them.

Curiously I can not see the images in post 1 of that thread. Using Firefox 130.0 on a browser. In post 1, I can see the text
" 1. The backyard in reality. This is where I'm gonna build the leanto."

and below that I can see img_7710.png but no image. I can right click on that text and it gives me the image context menu so can open image in a new tab and I see the photo. Have disabled ad blocker, and tried in in-private window but still not showing

I'm on Firefox, even the newer beta of 131.0b4 and they show fine, and that's with aggressive adblocking too.

I've two computers here on the same network connection: a work one and a personal one.

The personal one shows the images on that thread fine in all browsers.

The work one shows the images broken in all browsers.

The odd thing is, that on the work computer, if I right-click on the broken image icon and select Open Image In New Tab, the image will load fine on it's own in a new tab.

I don't really know where this leaves us in terms of figuring out the issue, but it doesn't seem to be a Boards issue.

I suspect this isn't a boards.ie issue either. I suspect it's a Photobucket thing, possibly due to users not allowing cookies/referers or something along those lines.

Some experimentation then. On this same PC, Firefox has no issue, yet a normal Chrome window won't load them. If enable Chrome dev tools, they do display in artificially set browsers, such as mobile devices or responsive mode. I don't see what's making the difference, only that Chrome won't make requests for the images in normal mode. My current suspicion is because the links are going to HTTP URLs, but Photobucket now responds to those with a 301 redirect to the HTTPS version of the same link, and the browser may be objecting to mixed mode content like that, something that became common since the images were first posted.

Yes, I'm right, Chrome blocks on the grounds of mixed content.

So this isn't a boards.ie or Vanilla issue. You can edit the posts to alter the URLs to https, or ask a mod to do so.

I don't have permission to delete those posts. Is there a board or thread where I ask a Mod for help?
