    Hi all,

Has anyone else hit an issue with the golf Ireland app when trying to select an attested/signee when entering a Casual Round?

I’ve been unable to select my playing partner and ended up not being able to submit the round.

That then caused a penalty round.

Sorry can’t help, haven’t had the problem but relative newcomer question what is/what’s the impact of a penalty round?

that makes sense. The guys I was playing with were from a different club.
do you know if this was always the case? I’m sure I could search by name earlier in the year and it worked for someone outside my club.

    Thanks for the reply

always number unless they are in your home club or listed in your friends on the app

that’s it the last time it was a friend. Appreciate the great feedback

you can’t even select a friend to attest your round unless you have already chosen them at the start of your round to keep their score also (even though you don’t actually need to keep their score)

Flaw really with the app as you should be able to select a friend at the end of the round to attest your score

Yeah, found that issue too Seve, unless you select them when starting the round you still have to go through the full search by GI id number.

Write up the round on a scorecard and have your playing partner sign it just like in the old days. Then submit that to your handicap committee. They will replace the penalty score with the real score

There’s a much bigger problem with the app. Your attester can verify your round from home. Much to nobody’s surprise a number of clubs have discovered members with phantom rounds.

Well you have to be within a fairly close range of the course to start the round, which avoids full on addition of rounds

But I have heard cases of guys who had driven into their club, started a GP round, drove home, and filled in scores to suit their needs.

They were caught and banned from their club

That's unbelievable really, madness. I'm not sure casual rounds should be allowed. And it's a pity for genuine people who may work weekends or not be able enter regular competitions, for them casual rounds are great to try maintain an up to date handicap. But like most things it's ruined by those who see a way to exploit it.
