What is the best way to start the ball rolling with a bathroom renovation. Should I have a plan/ sketch made and all the sink bath toilet type of shower already picked ready to buy before I go to a fitter for the. I was thinking of going to someone who will just take it from start to finish aka a bathroom fitting company who specialize in it, but unsure, what is the first step. A house visit by them to look over what is possible and what's not? I am guessing they will appreciate having potential options for the toilet sink shower etc picked out ready to buy.

Get as many well established people as you can to come and give you a quote for the job. Each of them will tell you what they think is the best way to do the job and how long it will take, you'll probably find most of them will suggest the same layout.

When i was getting my bathroom planned i had most stuff ,wall mounted toilet , and frame with cistern and fittings. Decorated sink and mixing tap with pop up waste outlet.

I bought an extra long shower tray with screen but an afterthoughts as standing on tray is flexible makes it giddy as now feel unsteady in there with issues.

Upstairs bathroom tanked and have a rain shower when i have tank of hot water. No hot water i also have a Triton as a reserve. I would have liked to have gone and used Shower tiles instead.

Leds in ceiling when i want extra light , walk in sensor above door puts Leds on around frame of sink if i have to run to the toilet. Bathroom cabinet also had leds on the edges if i needed to shave in the dark and a shaver socket.

My local builder struggled in cutting floor tiles and had to get someone else in to do the floor.

Are baths not a thing of the past as when elderly will struggle getting in and out. I also bought towel rails.

If you know what you want is good as is the trying to make up minds

Ya but what was the first step. Had you a specific plan in mind before they arrived to scope the work? Had you specific items like sink toilet etc already picked or you picked them out after they came to quote?

Buy nothing until you speak or more correctly listen to the professionals. You should of course tell them what you were thinking of doing and then they'll either tell you it's a good idea or suggest something else.

At the end of the day it makes no big difference which type of sink, bath or toilet you want as long as there are water and waste pipes already fitted in the room.

Some contractors prefer to supply everything themselves as they can make an extra profit doing that, others prefer to price for labour only and let the customer supply everything as it's less hassle.
