Why is Bulmers draft no longer widely available ?

I was in 3 different pubs in Dublin city centre the other day that didn't have Bulmers draft.

This wouldn't have been the case 10 years ago.

Does anyone know why pubs are no longer selling Bulmers draft ?

Diageo and Heineken are pushing Rockshore Cider and Orchards Thieves.

I can stomach a few pints of Rockshore but Orchards Thives is dire.

It's funny how Bulmers draft use to be everywhere but now you can't get it.

Because Heineken have pushed it out, they do a deal with the publicans to give Heineken beers and orchards thieves at reduced prices if they take away bulmers.

It's the same with carlsberg, they have pushed that out aswell even though it's actually brewed by diageo, they get Heineken beers at a cheaper price if they take away carlsberg. The competition authority should be really getting involved

It’s a pity we never got proper cider here. I remember having subs in the UK and it was fantastic. Totally different to the mass produced stuff. It’s such a great drink. Vulnerable/Rockshore/Orchard Thidves are sugary chemical shíte by comparison.

Their after service line cleaning etc was shite.

That's one reason. the big boys can make better offers to get their taps into pubs.

Yeah there use to be massive differences between the quality of Bulmers draft between different pubs.

In some pubs the quality of the draft was so low I couldn't drink it.

It was a very rare to get a perfect pint of Bulmers.

A quirk in Ireland as well is that most Bulmers drinkers prefer a pint bottle with a glass of ice. Pub I used to work in served both and we always sold more bottles than pints.

The main reason you would drink it from a pint bottle is because the quality of Bulmers draft varies a lot and you almost never get a perfect pint on draft.

But if you can get a perfect pint of Bulmers draft it is far superior to the bottle IMO.

the lines were hard to keep clean thus varying quality of pints.

that's why we got rid. the infrascructure needed to have regular naionwide line cleaning isn't to be underestimated.

if the line was in any way dirty the cider would splurt. which was a ball ache, ours must be gone 6/7 years.

Higher sugar levels cause more problems with lines, AFAIK.

Anyone remember Scrumpy Jack being available on draft for a while in the 90s?

Vaguely. There was a bit of a mini boom around 1996 with Hudson Blue, Coopers and Cashel as well.

I remember Scrumpy being available on draught, it was 6% rocketfuel. Drank it for a while but got fed up waking up with rotten heartburn.
