Can someone please clarify what documents the bank needs to authorise an EPoA? We have the certificate of registration from the Ward of Court but the official has said to make sure we have the "report " not just the letter of registration when we attendthe appointment in the branch to get authorisation. Seems odd as the process of registration took months and months and was based on all the relevant documentation in the first place ie original EpoA documents, GP, Geriatrician reports etc. So what report is she talking about??

I have contacted the solicitors and they're confused too as the registration certificate came from via the high court so what more do we need?

The Banks will get their own legal teams to check through all the documents (Consultant reports/terms of the EPA etc etc ) that were originally provided to the courts to get the EPA enacted.

That's why the bank official was telling you to bring all the documents .

One of the banks will also charge you for this ! Crazy situation considering the cert should suffice.

Make sure you make a copy of the documentation before handing them over

No the bank should not look beyond the Certificate of Registration from the Wards of Court Office.

Quite frankly the capacity medical report to support the registration of the EPA is none of the banks business.

If they are insisting on sight of that or any other document besides the Certificate of Registration you can ask your solicitor to bring injunction proceedings against the bank and a letter before action will usually make them back down.

This is unreal if true! The certificate of registration was issued by the high court on the back of all necessary documents! Are thr bank disputing the high court decision? Out mother is in longterm care and her bills need to be paid!!

Who is the "official" you refer to in you first post? And I'm also unclear as to whether you have actually visit the bank and what they have actually said is the issue? Can you please clarify these issues?

Not all EPAs are the same,The issue is what powers have you been given under the enduring power of attorney, hence why the banks want to see the detail.

Your solicitor should have provided all the documentation along with the court certificate when the EPA was first granted.

As an aside the Banks tend to process the EPAs fairly quickly but do ensure that all accounts are correctly updated.

THe Official was the bank Official who said this over the phone to outline what was required for the appointment. I was confused.

All documentation was supplied. That's how we were granted it in the first place.

To update, the bank did insist on medical report, rightly or wrongly but we didn't want to argue as bills were mounting and we needed it done. It took another 7 working days to get green light, so 2 weeks then till we could cologne documents to set up direct debits etc . It's all very very slow. Nearly 9 months to get access to cash to pay bills.
