I am very, very aware of price rises, so I hate to do this after a good week (73 with 2 players to go), but…

I'm looking at changing my team from this:

    Pickford/Turner

    Saliba - Gvardiol - Porro - Quansah - Bednarek

    Saka - ESR - Szobo - Foden - Dendoncker

    Haaland - Isak - Pedro

    to:

    Flekken/Sels

    Saliba - Porro - Faes - Lewis - Mazraoui

    Salah - Saka - ESR - Winks - Sangaré

    Haaland - Welbeck - Isak

My team would be the ones in bold.

At the moment, that would leave me with .4 in the bank, but I'm doubting myself as

A: I never usually wildcard this early

B: Transfer window is still open

    Thoughts?

    Hold.

There are midweek games this week.

    Transfer window closes on friday.

Pedro to Welbeck is a sideways move, granted Welbeck is going up tonight, but they play Arsenal next week.

    International break follows that.

Sort out Quansah after the midweek games.

Wait until GW3 starts, you'll have 2 weeks to watch for price rises/drops.

Pretty set to go without Haaland, hoping Foden can cover

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,951 ✭✭✭✭Ace2007

it’s nothing short of madness going without Haaland - foden isn’t even making squads atm, I saw a star that every 9 games on average Haaland gets a hatrick. Your going to be up against everyone that has him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

Would it be worth committing to starting Pedro and moving the other 5.5m striker to a 4.5m and using that to upgrade one of the 4.0m defenders ?

Brighton will score goals home and away.

I don’t like the 18 year old Villa defender pick. Not many that age get games in the premier league. Keane will not be in that team even if they sell Branthwaite and that doesn’t look likely. So he’d be 4th choice at Everton.

If bulling for 4.0m defenders I think Mosquera and Greaves are better picks.

Love the midfield. You shouldn’t have to sell any of those guys barring injury. I’m very tempted to WC myself to a similar midfield but I would have Saka over Salah. And I would go with a placeholder (with 1-2 excellent fixtures) for Foden and leave the upgrade money in the bank. I don’t think Foden gets loads of minutes over the next 2 fixtures.

Better again, if you are committing to the 3 x 4.0m defenders I would downgrade the Wolves striker to a 4.5m and upgrade Foden to Saka.

I wouldn’t say its madness but yes you are going hard against EO. I guess I just think you can make a lot stronger team without him.

If I was to give you the choice between Haaland + Robinson + Faes V Watkins + TAA + Robbo over the course of the season, I think most people would pick the second group. So the weeks where Haaland gets a hattrick and everyone has him captained you look awful but over a season if you can do ok with another captain then I think you can match the Haaland teams over a period of team given his price and what sacrifices you need to make. The Watkins team there costs 1.5m less also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

If I downgrade Larsen then I’m playing a fourth defender if any of them are out for the week. It’s a toss up between rotating the three 4m lads or having someone I play 60% of the weeks. I’ll have to see what it would look like to have Robinson for the next 4/5 GWs, how many games he would play. I like the Mosquera pick. Is there any chance Greaves loses his spot for O’Shea?

I like the idea of Saka over Foden, depending on how team news is looking this weekend. If Watkins drops before the weekend I could just afford Robinson + Saka over 4m + Foden. Ideally a keeper would drop to 3.9m

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 930 ✭✭✭JPup

Going without Haaland isn't necessarily madness, but that team also has no Son and no Saka so I'm really not seeing the upside there? Also no Arsenal defenders!!

Wildcarding this week is a bad idea I think. Use your two free transfers and bide your time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

Not sure. They paid 21.5m for Greaves and 14.2m for O’Shea but not sure if that means the obvious.

I think you need 3 different 4.0m defenders than the ones you have picked because Faes has come out bad mouthing Leicester’s lack of transfers and may be looking to get out of the club.

If I had to pick 3 that I think have the best chance of guaranteed minutes I’d be looking at Mosquera, Johnson or Greaves at Ipswich, Vestergaard at Leicester or any of the Southampton 3 but preference for Stephens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

ogbene could impact Johnson I think.

If I get another rise out of Haaland, a Watkins fall or a 3.9 goalie I'll go with your option of Robinson, Saka and Jebbison

Listened to FPL wire earlier, they were advocating a non Haaland WC, easy to say when none of the are on WC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,944 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Yeah, very easy to say that when we’ve just come off a prime Haaland fixture, and Salah being quite captainable in GW4 and 5. But there are lots of potential hat trick fixtures on the horizon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

Putting in a 4.5m defender with your 2 LFC players will make your life so much easier, in the long run, as you will have a lot of options when Fulham have a few dodgy fixtures.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

I'm hoping that Friday nite Watkins and Eze drop in price and that Haaland and Madueke go up, would give me another 0.4m to play around with

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,068 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Team sitting at 100.1 after Foden's drop. I have to keep an eye on how much my first choice WC team are costing.

    Edit: I'm out by .1%…

Sure we'll see what happens before the international break…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

Listebing to Blackbox and now I'm tempted to spend that extra million on Raya

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

Ha. Podcasts are a disaster and I’ve stopped listening. I make the exception and listen to them preseason. Which I regret.

We should only need podcasts for picking the best bench fodder options and even then you could end up with Barco.

Raya is a good option. Feels too safe for you though 😁.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,803 ✭✭✭Bleating Lamb

Have made a very poor start this Season so going for my earliest ever WC.

Thoughts appreciated on following squad……have tried to pick players with a combination of both favourable fixtures and form.

    Raya Fabianski

    Saliba Gvardiol Mazraoui Faes Robinson

    Saka ESR Palmer Rogers Amad

    Joao Pedro Haaland Isak

Best of luck to anyone else pulling the WC lever this week!😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,419 ✭✭✭Invincible

Looks a good team, some potential risers there, so don't leave it past tonight or you could be short.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

IMO, seems a bit short sighted.

Double Arsenal defence when they have Spurs and City in 4 & 5. No Liverpool ahead of their run from GW4 onwards?

I would think the same, particularly going w/o Liverpool cover could be very risky. Personally with the intl break coming up after GW3, unless the team is a complete mess I would to try and hold off on wildcard as there will be injuries etc that could change how you would setup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,594 ✭✭✭macraignil

That team choice looks good to me. On wildcard myself and have also gone for some of the same players. Not convinced about having so much money tied up in a goal keeper and think Man City defense has not proved effective enough at keeping clean sheets to warrant the price of their defenders.

My picks are now on those listed below but may reshuffle again in the morning so any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Martinez, Bentley

Saliba, Alexander-Arnold, Pedro Porro, Robinson, Faes

    Palmer, Madueke, ESR, Diaz, Semenyo

    Joao Pedro, Haaland, Havertz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,803 ✭✭✭Bleating Lamb

That's a good squad too……I wonder might the signing of Sancho affect Maduekes minutes?……I like the Porro pick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,594 ✭✭✭macraignil

Good point but think I will stick with Maduaeke for a few weeks anyway as I have felt he has looked a good player in the past and hoping the hat trick last week will help him get a good run in the team. He went off early in the midweek game so looks to me that the manager may have been trying to keep him fit for the weekend. Lots of choices in that price bracket anyhow so will not be difficult to move to an alternative if he does not work out. I think the new transfer roll over rules make it much easier to build up transfers to have in effect a few mini wildcards through the season so think keeping the wildcard is not as important as it was previously. Actually thinking of benching Porro this week as I think Newcastle will score but he is very attacking so will be in my first team most weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

Decided to use WC this week, unplanned.

Price changes would have impacted me too much had I waited til GW 6 as planned.

Only thing I’m unhappy with is no Arsenal defence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

    Decisions.

6.0m defender, like Robertson or Saliba paired with ESR.

Or a 4.8m defender and Eze.

Either option would need both players to start.

I’m leaning to the latter but I hate the idea of not having set and forget defence.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,675 Mod ✭✭✭✭F1ngers

If you want premium, I'd go Robertson up to GW11, then Saliba.

You could probably go without Arsenal defence until GW12.

I'll be going with a back 7 x 4.5m - clean sheets are hard to come by.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

Yeah. I might trick around with 3 x 4.5m defenders but I’m definitely having TAA in my team.

Haaland, Saka and TAA are the ones I definitely want even though I think it’s zero fun owning Haaland.

It’s not when you don’t Captain him 😁.

I didn’t like the away fixture so went with Isak.

I won’t make that mistake again. Unfortunately I think we will now go Haaland permanent captain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,068 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

He'll have a dip in form. Everyone does, even Haaland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,944 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Well, he is not going to score 2.33 goals per game for the rest of the season, but I am also of the opinion that he may now stay borderline permacaptain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,803 ✭✭✭Bleating Lamb

Took a chance on Palmer as Captain…..he’s got an assist anyway😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

    Think I’m going without Haaland.

Without him I can afford a load of players I enjoying watching so currently swayed by that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

No Haaland here this week, GW rank of 300k even with Palmer as C. The algorithms all hate Haaland, 15m is a lot of money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,951 ✭✭✭✭Ace2007

but your team has to work a lot harder than ones with Haaland to keep pace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

On the weeks where Haaland gets a hattrick. Every weekend Haaland gets only one then you're behind, break even at best. When he blanks you're done for.

He's great but I definitely think at that price either with or without him is viable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭munster87

There's a chance I wildcard…ideally I'd have either Saka or Palmer in that type of price range but it's probably easier to build a team I like with neither of them unfortunately.

Would probably mean Jackson up top for a few weeks and maybe switching him to Havertz then.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,675 Mod ✭✭✭✭F1ngers

Got my 0.1m from Madueke, think I'll bring Diaz in for him, he's flying up, so possible chance of getting 0.1 from him too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 661 ✭✭✭Caustic

I remember two season ago I was having a discussion with a lad and he was telling me he had no haaland was doing it as a bet and how easy the game was without him and how high up he was etc etc, I thought he was bullshitting but he showed me his team and it was quite high, I put my hand up said well done my bad and i was like i wonder how well youd be doing if you had gone haaland over kane, turned out he'd have been third in the world 11 or 12 weeks in.

It's probably too early to be saying people should or shouldn't be going without him but if you are doing well without him are you sure you wouldn't be doing better with him and do we think that the majority of non haaland teams are doing better on average id doubt it

It’s just those fixtures from GW 7 that is making it hard for me to go without Haaland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 705 ✭✭✭Newbie20

Had no real notion of using wildcard until today, team has been doing fine but no Salah and I do like the idea of being aggressive. With now being able to carry transfers you can change your team again 4 weeks later really. I was looking at cheap at the back

    Henderson (Matthews)

Lewis Konsa Robinson (Van Hecke Keane)

Eze Salah Jota Diaz (Smith Rowe)

    Haaland Havertz Joao Pedro

might be a bit too much risk to go all in on Liverpool but it’s an attack that could do damage if it went right

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭nice bit of green

Got off to a decent start this season. Have Haaland, Salah and Palmer and picked the right captain each weekend.
However, those lads cost a lot so the rest of the squad isn’t adding much. Plus I want to add Trent.

I think Brighton are off to a decent start and Villa have some decent games coming.

So this is how it currently looks.

    Henderson (Turner)

    Dunk, Trent Digne (Nedeljkovic, Tuanzebe)

    Salah, Palmer, Eze, Mitoma, Onana

    Haaland, João Pedro (Wheatley)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 Coach6932

After a poor start this year I’ve pulled an early WC (which I generally hate doing but 3.8m ranking warranted it). Current draft below - thoughts very much welcomed.

Appreciate mbuemo has tough immediate fixtures but feel he’s a long term hold subject to injury at that price point given the Toney move. Also feel funds need to be adjusted around the defence and there will be changes there post break, have another .5 in the bank too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭nice bit of green

My only worry re Konate is re rotation. I’d rather have one of the 3 dead cert defenders for Liverpool.

And anyone other than Palmer from Chelsea is a lottery.

    Other than that, fingers crossed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 Coach6932

Fair shout. Van De Ven/Robertson is the same cost as Konate/Porro which will likely be the safer bet too.

I’m hopeful that Jackson will pick up points in near term and keep the shirt after a good start to the season. Need some form of Chelsea coverage given their fixtures. However expect I will move him to Solanke relatively quickly if injury free and showing a bit of form from GW6 onwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

Anyone tempted by Bruno on WC? Just for the next two

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

Not a chance and don’t want to have a FT planned. United are muck. They should have lost their opening 3 games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

If he was 5.5, I'd be tempted but at the price he is having an impact on getting other premiums in your team, I'd be steering well clear. It's a risk that could come off but there are better risks to play potentially like a double or triple Liverpool/Brighton midfield in the next two games.
