Dere are female electricians and ESB lines wimmin. Not many, but they do exist.

De inherent sexism within the trades puts many off, though.

The problem is the apes in human suits who act like donkeys.

Is KT blaming the voters now?

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

It's always funny hearing feminists bemoan the fact that there aren't more women in politics. There are more women in Ireland than men. This woman is basically saying Irish women don't know how to vote properly.

shouldn’t this be a Duffy topic?
    given his “alleged” Presidential interest

50.5% of Ireland's population are female. But no, blame men the (d)evil dastardly dastards!

I know there are some women there but there's no headlines about the need for 50/50 at all and that's all across many dangerous and dirty professions and it all can't be blamed on the usual stuff.

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

It's fair to say that this topic is a pet project for KT, much lie Joe has his pet projects: death, fibre-gades, chisslers killed in conflict,

    Caller driven show my hole!

In politics especially in govt, the best person is never the defining criteria for elevating someone, male or female.

Sure wasn't Joanne moaning about Louth not 'getting' a ministry

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

It would be gold if we had a role of Minister For Women and it was a man got the role.

Im a woman - working, raising kids and running a home is really hard - it's a full time job in itself. Politics is a 7 day, 24 hr job which makes it difficult for woman who are mothers. That's the reality. This woman on now is actually doing women no favours at all.

Feminism is more important than democracy.

In other words give wimmin more free stuff

Just an FYI the entire public sector is now 78% female!

she should go in to politics, with her job and family connections, she'd walk it I imagine….plus she's a dose which will help

I wonder what the percentage of high ranking/dept secretaries in the real permamnet government are.

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

WISE have been promoting it for years with some headway made, but it's an uphill battle.

I'd love to see more wimmin mechanics, sparks, etc, and within the body of women thoughout the land there are plenty of them who would like to work in a trade. The barriers to entry aren't high, inded there's a very accomplshed female mechanic local to me, but whether she'd have got a start in a main dealer in the city, I don't know. She's carved out a career for herself in a small local independent.

As I said above, there's still a LOT of sexism within the trades. Much more so than can be explained by simple sexism, something else going on, there. It's as if some tradesmen are dead against the idea because they couldn't keep their hands to themselves, and they know it.

Then there's the overall movement towards wanting a career following third level - WISE do seem to be focused more on graduate starts and clean hands techical pursuits, which do appeal more.
