A huge fire is burning in Ballyboden in Rathfarnham. Yet another fire destroying a historic building. When is the State going to get a grip on this constant lawlessness?

Its such a shame to lose these old buildings. It reminds me of when many of the landlords houses were burned after Independence. We lost 275 beautiful houses. Very short sighted thinking of it's the anti-immigrant crew. Ignorant thugs will be thugs.

It's not an IPAS site as far as I know. A company has been trying to get planning for apartments on it for a few years.

The site is owned by Shannon Homes who want to develop the site in to a seven storey apartment complex. A local group of course have been objecting. I see no link between this an an IPAS centre. Of course the liberal dot ie think it's Ballyogan and the usual yahoos are jumping on celebrating. Kind of sad, I know the area.

The planning permission that was previously refused is soon to be granted after a court battle.

No asylum seeker is due to set foot on that property, yet here we are blaming fascists for a situation that we have no idea about.

The building is almost completely destroyed now. According to twitter there had been small fires at the site the last couple of weeks. Looks like they finally got it this time. Disgrace.

Derelict buildings can and do burn down, due to many reasons, doesn't have to be arson.

Derelict buildings can be fixed up to be used to house those seeking asylum. Not all derelict buildings are being use to house asylum seekers.

Till we have some concrete evidence, this is sadly a building building burning down.

I'd also advise anyone in the area to keep doors and windows closed as that building has aspestos, something that was banned years ago and rightly so because it causes cancer, lung problems and serious health issues also ....
