White hairs at 29

I know I'm approaching 30 and it's not beyond the realm of possibility that genetics are taking their path .. but the last few months I am noticing more and more white hairs popping up around the sides, and fast.

Nobody in my family or extended family has greyed so early, my uncles in their 50s haven't even fully greyed yet and it only started in recent years for them. My dad greyed nearing 60 and still isn't fully grey at 64.

I have been extremely stressed from work over the last 4 months or so, to the point I took some days off to control it.

Could it be stress related? Has anyone actually had it reversed with the stressor removed? From googling I can see its scientifically possible .. but is it reality?

    Thanks

At the moment I have a hair on my chest which is white at the tip and normal hair colour at the root…my body is taunting me.

I always find lack of sleep resulting in white hair strands. The good thing is they turn black when I sleep atleast 8 hours the following night. I am taking high dose biotin 5000mcg.

I have a patch of grey hair on the front of my hair above the forehead and my beard is greying in spots. A few years ago they darkened first. I had blonde parts of my beard. I'm 40 btw.

I know it's bothering you but I couldn't give 2 effs about my hair greying. Stay positive if it really bothers you, you can dye your hair. Do it sooner than later as people will notice if you are full of grey and next time the see you, your hair has no grey. If you dye your hair now nobody will really notice.

So if u grew ur hair long, u could have some strand that would be grey, then black and then grey again! Wow.

Hey, how's the hair been since? Has the grey stopped coming now that the stress is gone? Have any of those hairs changed back?

It's quite strange, how many grey strands I can notice seems to depend on the room lighting. Has it all gone? No. Would you say I had a grey head were you to look at me? No. It's only on closer inspection can you see the strands.

I have been advised on some hair darkening shampoos that can work but have yet to try any of them. I'll avoid any dyes if I can!

I've a few (35 now) but they're all on the side. But Rory Mcilroy has more than me! He's them on the side too.

Wait until they all fall out, problem solved 🙂

Yes, the greys are on the sides. There was 1 rogue one out the top, maybe the shampoo is needed sooner rather than later!

Stress will cause much bigger issues than grey hairs if you're not careful OP.

Look after yourself all jokes aside.

genuinely can't remember it was quit a while ago now, but I remember after some googling it wasn't difficult to find

Absolutely very true, it's perhaps a good thing I'm not so bothered by it as much as I was. Otherwise you'll end up in the vicious circle of always being stressed by it and actually making it worse, a never ending circle of doom!

So you're using shampoo to solve the greying, and not hair dye?

    https://www.cuimc.columbia.edu/news/its-true-stress-does-turn-hair-gray-and-its-reversible

This was shared in our doctors group today and thought of sharing here.

My hairs (approx 10 strands) turn grey after 24 hours shift (stress induced) but most of them return to black colour after adequate rest.

But I thought the part of the hair that is already a particular colour can't change… only the part that's currently in the scalp will be affected by stress. That strand of hair will always show your history throughout its length. So if you were stressed two weeks ago then you might see a section on a strand of hair that is white in that part, and that is black on either end. That's what I would have thought anyway.

A whole strand can't just change colour overnight?

Not overnight. But over few nights definitely changed from white to pure black.

I had two white spots in my beard before 30, maybe earlier, but I had only noticed them when I didn't shave for a while ;)

A friend from work was half gray half black by 35.

Didn't Richard Gere blame performing live on stage as the reason for his 'overnight' greying of his hair.
