Looking for recommendations for a van 2015 and newer, something for the odd bit of towing. 100bhp up. Budget up to €12k. Three seater or crew cab preferably.

What are the x5 Jeeps like 08 09

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭J.O. Farmer

    make sure it's already commercial.

revenue have tightened up on new conversions and need to approve any change to commercial for crew cab before the local tax office since earlier this year.

In particular they are looking at the rear opening being big enough.

So if its at the 333 with seats it's OK?

Hard to beat the 3 seater berlingos or partners. Tune them up if under powered

Best out of all the diesel luxury SUVs of that era. Solid reliable engine and transmission setup great power and tow well.

They would be more reliable than a discovery 3, range rover, Q7 or Toureg that said many of those have set the reliability bar pretty low.

As for a 3 seater van it's hard beat a 2.0tdi transporter. Just avoid the 180bi-tdi ones.

A lot of jeep to only tow 2.7T. Do you want or need 3.5T?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭J.O. Farmer

it would be as it's commercial already. If it's not you might be able to get it reclassified but you'd want to check if it would meet the requirements.

For a start the rear door opening needs to be 12,800cm2.

That Transporter is 5 speed and probably 102 bhp, probably a bit sluggish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,055 ✭✭✭selectamatic

They map to the far side of 180. Same engine as the 150 except for the tune.

Be very difficult get a 6 speed 150 for sub €12k but maybe up the north as long as it's been on this island before the Brexit cut off

Are the 84bhp transporters way too sluggish? She's low horses, I see one for sale I'm interested in but way under powered. Presume she'd be no good for towing.

Transporters are troublesome imo,,had the 100 hp but hear of plenty others with trouble since I got rid,,, popular, hold value well but traffic etc seems give less trouble

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭farmer2018

So you'd recommend a traffic or vivaro? What are the 1.6s like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,388 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

Happy with mine,,, friends have them also,,I ain't pushing them, maybe others will give their opinion,, maybe I was unlucky with the vw but had more than my share of issues, more advising they are overrated than pushing the alternative.

Have driven a 15 vivaro with 12 x 5'6 Murphy, nice van and are to be bought for 4-5k. The new'er vivaro with twin turbo are very economically. Have driven transporters with different trailers and thought them very solid.

The vivaro has a better range of gears for motorway traveling.

The fiat Ducato is a good van and not expensive.

Ya there are a lot of vivaros and similar vans for sale on done deal.

If you're buying a Partner/Beingo with three seats, make sure you never have an adult passenger. Unless they're a hobbit!

The 2015 Kangoo seems to have a selectable, slow speed, electronic differential. Paired with the right tyres, maybe Michelin Cross Climate 2s, it helps in bad conditions. I think the ground clearance may be a bit better than some others. Mine has gotten me out of a few places I should never have put it in. I won't be testing it's limits deliberately though.

Chatted a few lads with the 1.6 vivaro's apparently the clutch and flywheel not up to continuous towing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,804 ✭✭✭148multi

A new fiat Ducato is only 24,000 plus vat

    I think they are 120bh

O'Reilly autos on tik tok seriously knowledgeable diagnostic technician based in the UK.

He's forever fixing vivaros/traffics etc. Now fair enough there's an absolute hape of them on the roads especially in the UK but it wouldn't exactly inspire confidence.

how does the 1.6 traffic hold up for towing? Majority of traffic’s for sale on done deal now are 1.6. The 2.0 are harder got

Hijacking this thread. My dad has a 00 land cruiser. Chasis has been welded and flew through doe last few years. No test on it now. Not driven fields. Tank of a jeep. What's it worth. Commercial vehicle. His plan is to buy a van for tricking around in. Jeep is too big for him now. Recommendations for a cheap small van please .

Can't go too far wrong with a Citroen Berlingo, plenty of them around for sale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭farmer2018

There seems to be problems with most modern vans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,804 ✭✭✭148multi

Bumped into a couple of lads with 1.6 vivaro's/traffic, they said not up to constant towing as clutch and flywheel not able for it.

LC probably worth around the 2k mark with no test. Ye could get more if it's genuinely still sound underneath it's just without a test it's dragged down into the market of the others that are in need of a bit of chassis work. If it's pre d4d it'll be a touch more desirable too. They moved to d4d around about that 00/01 mark I'm not exactly sure when.

For a small van it depends how small really. I personally like the fiesta vans sorta 2015-18 range are getting cheap enough and look nice.

He'd need to be wary on the ride height for getting in and out once you're used to getting into a high vehicle it's hard make the change back to lower car type seating positions.

For a slightly bigger option the 2016 on 2.0tdi 102bhp caddy's are great vans.

Can someone recommend me a three seater mid sized van 2015 up please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,458 ✭✭✭hopeso

I just spotted this on Donedeal…. I thought it was very much what I'm looking for, until I saw the dashboard. Covered in that vinal wood affect stuff. No way I could live with that. Would that stuff remove cleanly, or is it a permanent job?

I think it was July 2000 when the d4d engine came on the Land Cruiser. If it has the d4d badge you’ll know. Would you swop it for a SWB? 🧐 Also off road with rusty chassis. He’ll find it very awkward getting in and out of a car type van. I would be very slow to get rid of that, I know it’s a pig on diesel, but my mechanic loved the way it responded when he put his foot to the floor. Instant acceleration with no computer making its mind up whether to pump diesel or not. They don’t make them like that anymore.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

It's too big for him now. New battery and alternator in it recently
