So my car insurance was €360 last year, and my current provider gave me a lovely renewal of €440 this year. Ringing the up I can get a discount to €390. Signing up as a new customer is also €390, but there's a checkbox asking if anyone in my household has another insurance with the company. Technically I do as its the same as the one i'm renewing. It brings it down to €350. Sooooo my question is will that work? will they ask for follow up information? Anything to screw these feckers. btw the ones i'm with are the lowest

If the crowd you're with are already the lowest, why do you feel the need to 'screw these feckers'?

are you saying that youre current car insurance is what you would be using as the 'other' policy in this case? if so, of course that wont work, they'll ask for the policy number

Technically your not a new customer as you are renewing so that will not work out like you think it will.

Just phone them, tell them you see the new customer rate - either they put you on it or you lapse and sign up again.

I do it often and they always adjust my premium.

When you go through the new customer process (unlikely, you'd have to declare your NCB and previous insurer anyhow - so there is no way you wouldn't be telling them).

Nowhere does it say the discount is for persons who have not been a customer is x years etc so it is open to all who can be bothered to check.

Because it went up by 80 euro for no reason

Ya I went through the process and it got stuck at that bit with the policy, shame but not unsurprising. 20 years, no claims, no penalty points, no excuse for price increase other than the "excuse" of accidents gone up. Insurance companies love to screw people over. It's the same nonsense. What I am surprised is the call backs don't even try to give a better price, they just hang up when I say it's very expensive. Not the best business model

SSurely 390 is hardly expensive?. A little over e1 per day for insurance cover. About half the price of a coffee.

I know it's not high insurance price, that's not the point, seriously why are people just accepting increases in prices. it went up by 20% for no good reason, my wages didn't go up. In fact last year I had penalty points, this year i don't . Maybe that's the problem, people just accepting price increases for no good reason..no wonder they don't even try to bargain

If you can find me a garage that has not increased servicing rates / repair rates, let me know.

Similarly, if you had an accident and needed medical treatment , that cost has gone up too.

That's the reason for increasing car insurance. But at least it's nowhere near UK rates - I checked my car with a Hertfordshire address and cheapest quote was £857. Here I pay €370 at present.

I work in retail, the cost of living excuses are exactly that. Yes the prices did increase but in the last year everything stabilised . Parts have actually gotten cheaper by a bit. This is just another excuse for insurance companies to increase prices

Were you a new customer with them last year? If so, there may have been a discount which doesn't apply ths year.

I own and operate retail stores. Physical goods have remained steady because suppliers have dropped some priced thus goods priced have been able to stabilise but -

    Wages have increased substantially

    Insurance has increased

    Goods transport has increased

    Rates have increased

    Rents have increased

Have 4 vehicles in the company, repair and service bills have increased.

Health and safety training costs have also increased

The only thing that has dropped is electricity and gas and we are ultra efficient on them anyway.

I can remember paying over £1700 in 1984 for insurance. About 15% of a very good salary. €400 is CHEAP.
