Backbox regulations for changing single socket to double

    Folks, I have a few single sockets fitted with steel backboxes around the house that I want to change to double sockets.

    Do the regs require me to use a double steel backbox or can I use a double drylining box made out of plastic?

    Are they mounted in a stud wall or a brick wall? Drylining boxes are normally fitted so just the plaster board are holding them, hence the wings on each side.

    You can get double flush boxes made of plastic that just mount to the brick work inside the plaster board.

    Some are mounted on internal stud walls (nailed to the timber) and some are mounted on brick walls which are either internal load bearing or the external cavity block wall.

    I already have a pack of the plastic drylining boxes but I wondered if there are any regs that require me to use a like-for-like metal double backbox.
