Flight cancellation query. Took earlier flight

Apologies in advance if this has been asked before but I can't seem to see anything in the search.

On July 6th, we were due home from Agp to Dub and the night before our flight was cancelled and we moved to an earlier flight(changed via the app)

Does that exclude our right for compensation as we came home earlier vs later ? (Flight home was due to leave 16.35. We changed to 12.05)

    THey just mentioned operational issues.

    Many thanks

I wouldn't think any compensation is due because you were accommodated. Late last year I was on the Tube in London out to Heathrow airport and while on the Tube I got a text from British Airways cancelling my flight which was leaving about 3 hours later. The text said I would be accommodated the following day on a BA flight out of Heathrow.

I continued on out to Heathrow anyway and got off at T2 where Aer Lingus fly out from. If I waited for the BA flight the following day I would have needed a hotel overnight. I had a quick look on the booking websites and there was nothing near the airport that wasn't mad money. I booked a ticket to Dublin at the ticket desk in Terminal 2 for a reasonable €120. It was leaving at roughly the same time as my BA flight that day.

When I got back home I submitted my Aer Lingus flight receipt to BA. All I was looking for was €120 for the flight. They turned down my claim on the grounds that they offered me an alternative. If I took the flight the following day and stuck them for a hotel they would have paid.
